Name that movie.

Ok, while watching New York stories, I was reminded of a scene from another movie of that I now cannot place.

It is beautifully lit simply at first by candles on a cake, carried through a hallway or something. Eventually the lights come on and there is some kid that nobody knows standing in the room. That is all I remember, but I think this is a fairly famous film, so this should not be hard for you cine-junkies out there.

I am a pretty big movie guy... but you got me. Do you have any other clues... what time period was the movie made, was it a comedy, drama, horror film.... ?

It's driving me crazy.

All I can remember is that the whole point is there is someone in the room that isn't supposed to be there, but they can't see. It's a really wonderfully lit scene with a birthday cake. Like I said, this is all from a memory, so who knows what is real.

What I do know is that Coppola's film in NYS is the absolute worst. Besides Dracula, that was really the defining point of his career that told me he had jumped the shark. Poor fella. After making Life Without Zoe, how could we ever expect to see another Apocalypse Now, Rumble Fish, or GodFather? Well we did, and it was Godfather III. :/

Scorsese is the man. I absolutely love Life Lessons. I get it and it's beautifully delivered.

I need to see "New York Stories" again. .... on the Netflix que, raised to the top. Scorsese, Allen, Coppola and Nykvist, Alemendros and Storaro... it was a great idea. Yeah, Coppola had a great run, and gave us some great films, but that was a while back. I saw "Youth Without Youth" and I liked it Ok. I do want to check out "Tetro" and "Twixt", but I am not going to get my hopes up. He still goes down in the pantheon of filmmaking greats... but nothing lasts forever.
