Nadal and Federer both out

Awful, awful, awful. Federer just tanked, and Nadal got hurt. Schiavone was awesome though. And Ferrer took a set from Murray, which was (at least to me) totally unexpected. And Li Na -- so impressive.

Murray's draw has been a paved road of gold. If he doesn't win, that's gonna be hard to live with. He's been pretty fantastic in this tournament, and while Djokovich definitely earned his way in, you still gotta think Murray's gotta be feeling some incredible pressure.

Now, had it been a Nadal/Fed final, THAT would have been a very meaningful match. Defending Aus champ vs. someone looking to complete a consecutive Slam.

But Murray v. Djoko definitely evokes the feel of 20 years ago, which isn't at all bad.

Agreed; I just wish that they would have truly "won" their way in. I think Fed just "lost", I haven't seen him play that weakly since 2008. And Nadal, that just wasn't fair, he's been on fire for so long and then to get hurt... well, him and Venus too. Venus got a nasty injury, and both of them played out the rest of their match, and Venus even won. Not a word against Murray or Djokovic, they played well, Murray's been playing very well... but they haven't had to face the "real" Fed or Nadal this tournament. But, yeah, I love seeing historic moments, and Fed vs. Nadal would have been awesome this time.

Happy for Kim, she earned it -- especially after the collapse against Li Na just a couple of weeks ago.

Federer didn't look like he was passing the torch, so much as that he was flinging it. He'd played so very well, had a killer end of 2010, beat nadal straight-up in the Barclay finals, Nadal lost first, man it looked like a paved path all the way to #17. And instead he looked like I could have beaten him.

Dolgopolov though -- now that was something. That guy looked like the future of tennis in this tournament. He didn't get lucky, he just flat-out won his matches. Might be a flash in the pan, or this might have been his debut on the big stage, but either way it sure was fun to watch.
