NAB 2013: Timur Civan at Freefly Systems

Great job on the film Timur. I bet that device was a joy to work with and you're already thinking forward about what it can do.

For the record, Timur was not thrilled at the idea of being on camera.... and I basically held a gun to his head to get that much out of him.
:)

But - he is jazzed to talk about the production.
I have to say, you don't really appreciate that Movi stabilizer until you hold it yourself... it's pretty unreal.
Seeing it alone just doesn't do it justice.

Asked in another thread, but I'll ask here :)

What are the limitations of Majestic mode?

Can you run it in pan & tilt or is it single axis (user defined) only?

that is an excellent question. I know as of now its Pan optimized. Tilt seems to be logical. I will have to find out.

LOL, I fully understand that.

I decided to live on the dark side of the camera many years ago, and I know why.

I am new to these 3-axis gimbals, but am fascinated by the Movi. What I don't understand in such a rig is how does a single operator focus this rig... As you move around with the rig, how do we fodus or do we have to have a second operator. Sorry to be so ignorant, but I am on this. Thanks.

You need a second operator to do remote focus (and also a remote focus system). A single operator would use it like a single operator on a steadicam - use a wide lens and make sure you're wide and at a high Tstop to make sure most of your image is in focus... or focus at say 5m and make sure you always stay 5m away from your subject matter.
