NAB 2007 - EDIUS Broadcast v4.5

Bob, if this article is correct, then you can in fact edit the Sony footage in Edius or Vegas 7. I'm not trying to steer you away from the Sony, I just want you to have correct information.

Thoff - thanks for the info, and turning me on to the 'digital content producer' website (yet another giant batch of material to digest- all good). the sony is a dead issue except out of general interest now that i went with the HXV200. it and FCP seem to be a tried and true setup and as i am less of a techhead than many, i'm aiming for the 'keep it simple, stupid'. not trying to re-invent the wheel, just trying to learn how to ride the unicycle.

Because EDIUS Pro is just the editing software, and it doesn't support P2, DVCPRO-HD, XDCAM, etc.

You have to get the Broadcast version to get all that.

EDIUS Pro is the editing software (whether version 3.6, 4.0, or 4.5). "Broadcast" is the editing software plus all the plug-ins.

IC. I need "all that" since I have an HVX200. We are running the Edius 4.5 trial version presently and are finding it to be very good just maybe lacking on Hollywoood FX effects that we have in our Avid Liquid Pro but otherwise no comprimising. Moreover, we absolute adore the ProCoder Express. Any way to get extended effects, filters, etc.? I didn't see any options for expansion offers at the Canopus website.

Programs from the Boris line up will work from directly within EDIUS... Boris RED, Boris FX, etc.

Beyond that, using After Effects, and working between the programs is another option.

Later,
Jason

Not being operationally familiar with the Boris line and only known intellectually, do they have litterally "everything" that is missing from the software itself?

I don't know. I'm not really an fx guy. What is it that you are missing from the software? Then, maybe folks can give you some options to fill in the gaps in the feature richness of EDIUS.

Later,
Jason

I"m not so sure that there is a LOT missing because of my unfamiliarity with the Eidus software but as an Avid Liquid and Xpress Pro user with Hollywood FX Pro from Avid with Title Deko Pro (motion title graphics) when I look at the Edius list of goodies for effects/filters it looks like a small list by comparison. We do a lot of 2 & 3 D and all kinds of image motion, shake, wave, etc. and also transitions. We're having to change software because our Liquid Pro will not support 1080 x 1920 P2 4:2:2. Hope that helps?

I have Liqid Pro and Edius Broadcast.
Both have their plus and minus.

Liquid is rocksolid and does almost everything in NLE.

Edius lacks several tricks as you say. But Edius is fast with tapeless formats. It is faster than anything I know. It beats even AVID. Definitely beats Liquid, FCP and all those that need to have a plug-in to actually work with P2. When I do same-day-edits (or larger next-day-edits) then Edius is my choice. If I have more time and a format that Liquid supports, then I use Liquid or both.

I use both. Liquid and Edius are great next to each other. And I do After Effects work in between them also.

We are finding that Edius appears to be a lot faster than Liquid and somewhat more stable and much less finicy . . that is to say that it will run on almost anything we put it on and finishes a project fast although we haven't learned how to use the multicam feature yet and are worried about losing all those wonderful Hollywoood Effects.

Have you used Xpress Pro or Media Composer?
