can anyone recommend me a good Mystery/Crime tv shows/movie and state a brief reason (or pros cons) why you like it.

what i recently watched:
- Colombo - 5/5 - a classic show, did not care for the last few seasons
- the wire - 4/5 - the entire last season was rushed and not that logical.
- Castle 1/5 - police procedural with a tag along writer - used to be ok and light hearted, turned into mediocre and repetitive the last couple of seasons.
- Dexter 4/5 - police procedural from the point of view of a vigilante serial killer/forensics lab coat - pacing of the last season was not great. but i like the show overall including the heavy use of voice over.

is Agatha Cristie's Poirot any good, are the stories repetitive? i saw one episode, it was slowww. i like slow burners when there is content, but it felt like 20 mins worth of content in a 2 1hour episode.

is 'Murder she wrote' any good?

you may include shows with fantasy or sci-fi elements like death note anime.

Two shows that have highly impressed me lately are Luther and Sherlock

Luther is a dark, complex crime drama. Idris Elba gives one of the best TV performances in recent memory.

Sherlock is a more light hearted (though still dark, as all good British things are) mystery show, and in my opinion the best adaptation of Sherlock Holmes i've ever seen.

Both shows are available on Netflix Instant.

Does real life drama count? 48 hours is pretty good.
//edit: Oh I'm so sorry. I meant The |First 48 Hours. Darn copy cat names.

//Straying even more, the series The Walking Dead was pretty good. I saw season 1 & 2. Falling Skies is good I've heard. Probably not what your looking for though.

unfortunately, a us adaptation of Sherlock Holmes is in the making.

on the Apocalypse and sci-fi fronts,

i thought the first half of the 1st season of walking dead was good/ok, second season really slowed down, did not like the 'suddenly the empty leveled highway in the middle of nowhere is swarmed with zombies'. not a best start for a season, loosing confidence in the writers right away, or the guy getting bit and unaffected for too many episodes. not much has happened for a few episodes on the farm, and i dropped the show midway through second season, along with falling skies. i had more hope for the walking dead tho. and i did not expect the "story" to only focus on one or two characters each episode.

i liked 'survivors' much better than the walking dead.

on the sci-fi front, i was disappointed with falling skies and terra nova.

Re: Walking dead.

Yes, I agree that mid season 2, specifically episode S2E06, almost killed it for me. I had to try 3 times to get through that episode. Happily it became better towards the end of the season.
I can't believe they spent an entire season at that BARN!!!!!. At the end they had an unexpected surprise and that barn is no longer there for next season.

I tried watching Falling Skies and saw the same format as the Walking Dead and couldn't watch it after one episode. Recognizable formatting kills it for me. :)

'Sherlock' was much better than 'dirk gently' which was gook/ok the first few episodes until they went sci-fi heavy and lost all steam. i liked the fact that dirk was a realistic poor detective investigating realistic murders. it felt more noir while keeping the lighthearted appeal of the show which was funnier than what is sometimes attempted in 'sherlock'.
