Mysteriously dropped audio frames

Hello there,
Here's what happens: I used Ulead MediaStudio to capture from a DV tape. Now I switched to Premiere and want to use these clips. When I import and play in monitor I notice very small audio dropouts. Further analysis teaches me that EACH of the clips has a blank audio frame at the following locations:

01:07 (25th frame)
11:13 (288th frame)
21:19 (544th frame)

This is very disturbing, because I don't get the dropouts when I play-back in Windows Media Player... So the clips are alright. Only Premiere finds a reason to mess with them...

PS: when I capture with Premiere Pro there is no problem.

Thanks for your suggestions,
Greetings from ice-cold Belgium,
Stefan

I'm having the same problem. Just blank audio on the tape. Have you tried to take firewire out of your camera while recording? I wonder if that works.

Did you get your camera looked at? I'm thinking about sending mine out.

Same question: what framerate are you shooting at? What scene file on the DVX are you using?

Sometimes dropouts are just cause your heads are dirty or your hardware (e.g. hard drive) can't keep up.

Any framerate or any scene, actually I probably shouldn't say dropouts it's more than that. It's actual blank audio on the tape. seems to be pretty random. one tape worsk fine the next one a blank spot every couple of seconds.

The record head just seems to be missing the tape.

How long as it been since you had the heads cleaned or ran a cleaning tape? What's the audio source? Internal mics or external? When recording, do you monitor the audio to know for sure the audio is getting to the camera?

I listen with headphones while recording but It's not until play back when you hear the blank dropouts. Any source I get the same problem external or internal mic. both channels too.

Do you mean recording on the camera? What you hear while recording miniDV is not a confirmation of what's actually being recorded to tape. If your recording heads are dirty, for example, and the video/audio is not being recorded properly to tape, you won't know it until you play the tape back.

Are you seeing any problems in the video too? Are there moments in the video where the image breaks up or has a blocky appearance in a portion or the entire image?

Have you tried a cleaning tape yet? Usually when my heads start to get dirty I'll see a problem with the video first rather than the audio. If your problem is only with audio, I'm afraid I would begin to suspect a real problem with the heads or possibly the tape transport. :(

Nope never had any video drop outs jsut audio. I've also tried the tape cleaner so I guess I'll have to move on to sending the camera out to be fixed $$!

Thanks for you help.
