My Solution

Wow, I just stumbled on this thread and it feels great to not feel so alone and dirty anymore. I just reluctantly tried PRem Pro this morning after weeks of trying to embrace the simplistic flow of FCX. I've been w/ FCP since the first version and I'll always be a mac guy but my motion effects guy talked me into trying premiere for it's AE integration. I was a little scared and coy, but after about 10 minutes I'm sold. I wasted a clients' time on fcpX messing with all the crashing and cheesy effects that reset themselves. Now I see I can play my AVCHD files natively without maxing out all my drives to look at the wierd coloring of pro-res. I feel like I've been re-born after being slapped around by Apple. I'll still stick with my MAC now that I spent so much to upgrade it to work with FCPX but it just has everything that actually works running like butter. I'm also happy that I was forced to try something else by FCPX, now I'm motivated to get better with After Effects, too.

Just an update: I bought an asus 17" laptop for a job on the go (i7 quad, 8gb ram, gtx560m) runs pp amazingly well with the "card hack" to recognize the 560m for mercury playback -and it was only $1200. Now with resolve on windows, I'm thinking of dumping my MacBook pro entirely and getting my apple fix on my iPad.

Just joining this thread finally.

According to the Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5/Tech Specs it doesn't seem like there are many video card options on the mac side. What do you guys prefer?
There's the GeForce GTX 285 (Windows and Mac OS), which seems discontinued at this point, the Quadro FX 4800 (Windows and Mac OS), and finally the Quadro 4000 (Windows and Mac OS).

Thanks,
