My solution to xbox 360 fan noise and overheating

As anyone who has an XBOX 360 knows it is ridiculously noisy. This didn't bother when I was just playing games, but I got a deal on an HD DVD attachment and for watching movies the fan noise was way too distracting. I cleared out a cabinet on my home theater and stuck it in there, which cut down the noise a lot, but I also knew it would lead to some intense overheating as the hot air ejected from the back would keep getting sucked into the machine. I bought a NYKO intercooler for 15 bucks which attaches to the back of the machine and blows out more air. I duct taped a 4 inch wide, bendable aluminum dryer vent tube to the Intercooler and stuck this to the xbox. Then I cut a hole in the back of the entertainment center and put the vent tube though it. Now the cabinet with the xbox 360 stays nice and cool as the hot air is vented out back through the tube, and I can watch movies in relative quiet. I also haven't had any overheating crashes while playing games since doing this as well. Only downside is I cant use the media center remote, but I can still control the system with the wireless controller. If the cabinet had a glass window then this wouldn't be a problem, as the infrared signal would still reach the XBOX.

Well, I bought an x-box 360 a little over a month ago... It had the ring of death right out of the box... I sent it back... When I got it back last week... I played about 10 minutes or so of Fight Night Round 3... The game froze, I restarted the system... Than the three flashing red lights came back (argh)... So I sent it back again... They said if it happens again I can talk to a supervisor... They dont do refunds... Which is sick because I'm waiting another 4 weeks to get it back and I don't doubt it'll be broken again... I have it set up in a cool area where it can vent... But even if it wasn't set up in the right spot... It should like... break in at least a month (or not at all)... But not right out of the box or in 10 minutes ahhh...

Remember when the worst problem you could have with consoles was when an NES game didn't start right... so you had to blow in the cartridge a little? Yeah, those times are clearly gone forever. =(
