my redrock stinks!

So I just reached my 1 year anniversary and a little disclaimer I am sure some of this is user error. Just shot a short film with it with a constant slight vignette on the left side of the frame. It is just shadow not a solid thank god but still its not whats supposed to happen. Secondly I think my light loss got way worst some how. I lit a living room with 3 1k soft boxes and f 1.4 and camera open is dark. (no dumb mistakes like ND on we had the AC the Gaffer and I huddled around the camera looking for reasons) Also if I zoom out the prism is not on parallel lines it is crooked.

simple adjustments in regards to the prism... dunno about your light... have you checked internal camera settings for some odd change? The vignette is because your flip isn't properly centered... fix that and you fix the vignette mostlikely. What zoom are you at as well! Shoot me a PM and we can phone chat tomorrow!

3 1ks should not be dark (if you mean totally black)....even with the old cinescreen. You should be able to light a 250watt light and at least see some light. Either your camera is broke, or you forgot to take off a cap or something.

With that said.... it does take a lot of light to get proper exposure with any 35mm adapter.

Well It wasnt black but I have worked with this rig religiously for over a year now and I am not ignorant to the fact that it loses light but not that much. I had talent squinting the room was so bright.

The light loss is something suspicious, as that isn't really possible, with few exceptions. That is 99% more likely a camera issue, but I am unfamiliar with the 'flip' module, so I cannot comment on that part of the adapter.

I hope this isn't to patronizing, but this is a quick check list I came up with. I'm sure you did all this, but here it is anyway.

Checklist:

1) Internal Camera ND's
2) Shutter Speed
3) Aperture of Camera
4) GG + Achromat cleanliness. Is it dusty?
5) 35mm Lens Aperture
6) Filtration in MB (remember things like 85a filters and Polarizers can create heavy light loss)

Other then those factors.... did you check to see if

a) Display brightness was turned down, have you looked at the footage in post?
b) gamma curve perhaps too crushed?
c) Check the lens cap :)
