Hey everybody,
I've thrown together a website and I'd like to see what you think of it. Please check it out and give me the good, the bad, and the ugly so I can make it better. Thanks.

Looks good. But the menu items up top change in size with the mouseover, whereas the bottom links do not. Also, the e-mail link doesn't fit the theme of the rest of the site. That's about it for now.

Good luck.

Looking good.

Looks like he just added bold to the text on mouseover. Might want to make it all bold at the top and just change the color like you did on the bottom.

Looks good. The only thing that I would consider is seeing if you can shorten the length of the pages so that they fit within a monitor set to 1024 x 768 (the one usually just above 800 x 600). This would get rid of the scroll bar and add to the already clean look. Looks like you have just enough room to do this if you choose to. Just bring up the "Made on a Mac" text and logo at bottom and shorten your background image. Some pages might have to be longer (ie: stills), but the less scrolling the better. Also, the quicktime window moves when I scroll leaving a window trail. Not sure why. You would have to assume that this will happen to others as well. Again, shortening the page size to fit 1024 x 768 would fix that problem.

I would ditch the "under construction" sign. Maybe it is just a pet peeve of mine, but I think it takes away from the professional look you have going.

Site looks great. Nice work.

I hope this comment doesn't sound too odd, but when your main image is of a cityscape and their is a plane lower than the tallest building, I can't help but think of 9/11.

Chris

Thanks so much for your suggestions. They've been tremendous.

PK-Yeah I see how they get bold with the mouseover, but I think that's done automatically by iWeb, at this point I don't know how to change it. Any suggestions?

Snodart-I tried changing the the page size (content height and width) but I'm not sure I did it right. It was actually set to something like 700x480 and now its set to 768x1024. I'm working on a widescreen Macbook Pro, could that have any effect on what I see vs. what everyone else sees?

Chris-That didn't even cross my mind. Maybe I've just become used to it, I always see planes landing at LaGuardia flying in front of the skyline. I'm definitely not trying to play on 9/11 at all, but I see your point. I do think that there are enough differences in the picture (sundown, plane facing away from the building, etc.) that its acceptable on its own and doesn't automatically make one think of that day. I mean if I can't show what I think is a beautiful picture of a place I love with a plane in it, haven't the terrorists won in some small way? (Sorry, rhetorical, tongue in cheek question there.) I thank you for making me look at it from a different perspective.

Everyone else who replied - Thanks!

If the size of the web page was 700 x 480, then that should have worked... hmmm. Your pages might have a little too much to fit into 480 (hight). I hand code my sites so I don't know my way around iWeb.

Your pages will look a little different with each different screen that it is viewed on (and a little different between each web browser). How different depends on what is in the HTML code that iWeb creates. It looks like your pages have a set width of 700. This is fine and pretty much a web design standard. This way your pages will fit (width wise) on pretty much any monitor or screen with any screen resolution setting. The lowest typical monitor setting is 800 pixels wide X 600 pixels tall. Ideally, any page that doesn't have content making it very long (tall) should be a bit shorter than 600 pixels. I think that your pages have big enough images and such that people with their monitors set to 800 x 600 are going to have to scroll down. What you should probably aim for is to have the length of you pages fit within a monitor set to 1024 x 768. So what you might want to do is try to make the height of your pages around 650 or less. doing this allows for some room at the top for the address and tool bars of different browsers (650 + 118 = 768). This way you wouldn't get a scroll bar on the side that only scrolls down to empty green space.

As for getting iWeb to do this, you might have to set the page height to 650 as well as the background image and anything else that runs the full height of the pages. Sometimes even if the page height is set to a fixed number, the page will extend longer if there is a background image that is longer than the fixed height. Again, I haven't used iWeb.

I hope that helps... I know that it is a little wordy, sorry.

Of course, keep in mind, your site still looks great and this is all web design nit picking.
:)
As an example, here is a site that I built that will fit on almost any monitor:
http://kcbtowers.com/index.htm

My personal site doesn't quite fit within a monitor set to 1024 x 768. In some cases, other design factors make it unavoidable. Howerver, there is only a tiny bit of scrolling and it should fit on monitors with higher resolution just fine:
http://snodart.com/

On a side note, I see you added a hit counter at the bottom. I'm not of big fan of these, as I think they take away from the clean look, but that's just my opinion.

Also the colors scream christmas time on the opening page. I think a helicopter would be more "you". :)
I put your contact info in my phone.
