We got the funding to shoot a season of a show I did a pilot for in the spring!
Last week after I got the money, I went on a shopping spree!
I've been opening boxes and figuring out gear, charging batteries and such, for the past few days...  it is like christmas in July!  we start shooting next week.

I have a few questions though...

how do you guys keep the french flag from drooping/moving on the CAvision mattebox?  the lock screws aren't very tight...  I was thinking of rigging a velcro strap or something to help lock it where I want it...?

what do you guys do to secure the XLR audio input covers?  I was thinking of getting some string and tieing them to the handle strap - seems like a matter of time before they are get lost if I don't fix them to the camera some how...

anyone have experience with the 'frezzi" HMI sun gun?...
I wonder how long it will take for the bulb to heat up and get to the right colour temp (I am still waiting for the first batt to charge so I haven't tested the light yet...)

more questions coming soon!

XLR covers? threw em away. lectro wireless RX goes into CH1. ME66 goes into ch2.

what are you planning to shoot with the frezzi HMI? I hope nothing more than quick stand-ups. i've used those and they're pretty much worthless except for a bit of fill with a subject that is not out in the direct sun. on-camera lighting is some of the ugliest around.

on camera lighting is ugly - I agree.
I am not shooting drama with this rig - it will be used for stand-up type stuff at dusk or dawn or full night - rarely in full day light will I be using it. I just figured I'd get HMI instead of tungsten as all of my shooting will be exterior and I will not need to think about matching colour temp much.

that's great, I remember back in the day before I found electronics to be my toy's of choice I would go out fishing 4 day's a week. your setup looks good for what you'll be shooting, just don't drop that bad boy in the water.

Is that a 3.5 scope you got on there? Must be a great tool for some super steady long focal length shots hah!
Weird that you got yourself a sungun and a mattebox in one set. Usually documentary operators stay away from matteboxes from what i know. Anyhow that cavision is lovely! You are only missing a nice Sanken. Beautiful enough to kill.

Someone in another thread had mentioned using 'fishing string' (filament) to secure the little covers on place on the DVX. Velcro might be your best bet for the French Flag; just a little strip that you can use as support.

yeah that flag is a little bunk. I actually just totally locked one screw with a pair of plyers so its really tight, now it works well, at least the hood stays up. i hate the little plastic lockdown tabs for the actual mounting though, if you figure a way around that one let me know.
