My look part 2

Ok i think ive figured out more of what I want to do for the look of my 20 minute short. I want to have all the interiors to have a Kubrick (2001 especially before they get on the space ship, in the scenes before the main character uses the video phone to call his daughter) or Camron (Aliens) type look, where there are no shadows and the walls are very textureless, and have it all be 'flat space'. Then all the exteriors will be deep space, with lots of diagonals, fog, wind, etc.

Any tips on creating the look for the interiors though? Im not really sure how to go about doing it.

hey
well, look very carefully at the movies you are emulating. Color and quality of lighting are important. Are you talking about Alien, or Aliens? Ridley Scott's Alien used a lot of simple open space, I don't remember if Aliens did as well.

The lighting will be very important for you. If you end up shooting in an area with flat white walls it could end up looking really ugly. You basically need to sit down with some very good artistic people and break down what you want. It's hard for anyone here to answer that for you. Do you like the minimalism of it?

Plus, the feeling comes from more than the blank walls. The camera moves, style of acting, costuming, etc all add up as well for a package deal.

Anything is doable, but you need to go back and decide what about this appeals to you, why it will work for your film, what spaces you have to work with, and how to dress them for your needs.

good luck man,
tom
