My Lesbian Wedding

I think the fiancé has finally decided upon a song for our wedding...

'Ice Cream' by Sarah McLaughlin.

I know it's a nice song and all, but doesn't having your song by Sarah McLaughlin sort of make it a lesbian affair??? I might have to make some adjustments to my invitations to reflect the Lilith Faith content people are going to be subjected to.

She still refuses to acknowledge that the best possible wedding song is 'Good Feeling' by the Violent Femmes.

Does anyone have a decent suggestion for a wedding song?

While I like Sarah McLaughlin and the Violent Femmes, when it comes to weddings and romance, I am a big Van Morrison fan.

Of course your wedding song, should probably be something that has some personal meaning for both of you.

Anything by the Violent Femmes is a perfect song. The wife and I walked out to U2's "A beautiful day" then made some mix CD's of our favorite songs and cycled those at the reception. We're bad dancers so we skipped having a "song". If I were you, I'd just let her have her song and use it as leverage to get a lime green limo or something.

Of course your wedding song, should probably be something that has some personal meaning for both of you.

We have no songs that matter to us that are appropriate.

I told her if we dont figure something out I'm just going with Karma Police by Radiohead... that didn't go over well at all.

Just forget about appropriate and go for "you". Blast whatever song you both love and dance to it. It will be memorable at least.

Marc Cohen - True Companion
Tracy Chapman - The Promise
Van Morrison - Tupelo Honey
Delbert McClinton - Have a Little Faith in Me
Garth Brooks - Feel My Love (don't laugh, the original is by Bob Dylan)

if you can't agree on a song, let her have her pick.

as long as it doesn't make you want to claw your eyeballs out...

imho, the event is for both of you, but the day is really about her. do what will make her happy. putting a wedding together is stressful enough as it is, don't fret that hard about the song unless you have a good option, or you just couldn't live with sara maclaughlin.

i personally like 'such great heights' - the iron and wine version. slow, but sweet. i just got married and 'our' dance wasn't to this song, it was one that i thought was very nice and appropriate, but that my wife really really liked. something by aqualung. guess i should find that out and remember it though, eh? :cheesy:

By the way, I have two extra Radiohead tickets for their May show in Charlotte. If anyone is into that kind of thing.

No break dancing but that whole first dance thing has become a requirement for some reason in her eyes... and I have learned not to second guess anything.

She has rejected Patience by the greatest band of all time... Guns N-F*$*ing-Roses...

Sarah McLaughlin isn't a Lesbian, so how could it make it a Lesbian wedding?

I think a pretty common wedding song by Van Morrison is Crazy Love.

Get used to just saying, "yeah sounds great honey." Oh you chuckle. You think its semi-true but more often just a cleche but in 5 years you won't even hear yourself saying it anymore. She'll even yell at you for things you forgot to do that involved the involuntary "yeah sounds great honey." Did you stop at the store for milk? What?? you said you would. "Oh I did?" Wow wonder what goes on in that head of you-[wah wah wah wuh wuh wahh wuuh] ...Are you even listening? "yeah sounds great honey" *crash*

Eventually you'll of course learn to listen by tone and not specifics. You just need to hear the inflection to know which algorythmic response to use:

yeah sounds good
that's great
that would be terrific
sure babe
absolutlely not
probably not
no thank you
no problem
no i didn't
sorry I was busy

etc.

Think of it as magic 8 ball-ese or perhaps astrology response reflex

edit: no i dont know why she loves me

See Moulin Rouge. Every possible love song is in there.

Sincerely, I believe the walk out music in every wedding needs to be memorable, over the top, Corny, mellow... Just like love :)

Putting a cool rock song ends up being unmemorable. Remember, this will be the song you'll be hearing on those joyfull DVD nights with family and friends, and will probably be "your song", or the song that represents your love. (See? Corny! :) ) (which worked very well in one of my best friend's Wedding. By that I mean the song "your song", by Elton John)
