My least favorite aspect...

I just want to say that the output compression and dvd portion of the film making process is my least favorite. I respect the people who can do it well because it's the hardest thing I have tried to learn so far. I love editing, filming, directing and rigging up lights, but this portion is, in my modest opinion, the hardest part to be good at. Maybe I am over analyzing it and making it more difficult than it needs to be. To package your work well seems like a difficult task.

So to those of you that do understand this part and can make a worthy presentation of the film, I commend you.

It's good to know how to do the entire job, but I will admit the encoding part requires a very technical like knowledge that is different from the creative side of the production.

It's still part of the production and the client demands the best results. What's made things worse are multiple resolutions. Scaling is the number one issue I see with encoded files online. Number 2 being color space conversions.

I know I need to know it. You make good points. Got any recommendations as far as where on the internet I can find decent tutorials or lessons of any kind for this stuff?

www.videohelp.com is great for tools, but the community is largely uneducated, or uses subpar practices in their encoding. www.free-codecs.com is the best for well, codecs.

Avoid K-Lite Codec Pack, speaking of which, use CCCP and/or CoreAVC for absolute fastest AVC decoding on playback.

... If you're on OSX, well... Too bad :cheesy:
