My hard disk crash UPDATE

Ok, so I performed a software update and installed a security patch update from apple, rebooted and there it was: my crashed hard drive. Wow, lol. I opened it and all of the files were there, sitting like pretty little flowers ready to spring to life but there's a problem. When i try to open some of the FCP files it says "Unable to open project file"

Anyone familiar with this and if there'a way to fix it?

It figures that the projects it won't open are the three that are on a deadline.....

Oh man, there's something really screwy going on with this drive. I can see everything but can't really access any of it.

DOHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to curl up in a ball in the corner of my shower floor, blast it piping hot and cry until I can't cry anymore. lol

I need some help.

I feel for you. Data Rescue will allow you to copy files to another location or clone to a backup drive so that you can go to work on the original with disk warrior. I would highly recommend those programs. If you are willing to forgo cloning to a backup drive just incase (giving up some insurance), you could probably download diskwarrior tonight, hit run, and maybe wake up in the morning with th eproblem fixed. But if I were you, I'd take my time, be deliberate, and understand each step and associated risks as you do this.

I am no expert at this, just know what I learned from a very difficult experience. My guess is that you have some corrupt material. These are very good programs and they can work, but it'll cost just under $200, you may need to borrow another drive to be safe, and it will take time (ie not good for deadlines). The most frustrating part when my drive crashed was that you run a program for the ngth, go to bed, wake up it is still running, go to work come back to a message that it didn't work. Just be patient and methodical and the good news is that chances are you will be able to recover most of your material, the bad news is that the process literally can take like a week. pm me if you want some encouragement along the way.

Man this sucks big time Jay...Wish I could do something to help. I lost all my files recently in a similar problem...but I didn't have any major unfinished projects on it...please keep us up to date with how this is working out.

Man, don't even try to use it. Copy everything to another drive.

Sometimesa a drive will look nice for a few minutes after a reboot, etc... this is what often happens to LaCies. I've rescued a few by copying as much as possible during the brief "up" time; then rebooting everything a few times until it showed up again, copying something else... slow and tedious, but...
