my gl1 stuff

I used to own a GL2 and have shot with it side by side with a GL1, VX2000, VX2100, and now I own a DVX100b. The GL1 has lower resolution than any of the other cameras and it also has a lux of 6, same with the Gl2, but the VX2000 has a lux of 2, VX2100 is 1, and DVX100b is 3. The lower the lux the better it will tape in low light. Those clips seem to be on a pretty cloudy day. The only difference I noticed between the GL1 and the GL2 is the sharpness in the video and the color is a little bit better than the Gl1.

What you could do to achieve a nicer image is white balance on a warm card and also play with the color balance, sharpness, etc.

When recording outside use your ND filter instead of turning down the exposure. This is where the VX and the DVX can give you more control with their two ND options of 1/8 and 1/64. The GL only has one ND filter.

Also, if you want the film look shoot in frame mode. It's not as good as 24p, but it will take away a little bit of the video look.

would turning the sharpness up help at all?

No, because then you would get a little bit more grain. Actually, when I had my GL2 I would shot with the sharpness turned down a little bit and the frame mode on. With the sharpness turned down it took the crisp video look off a little bit.
