My G5 Superdrive not working...can't get dvd out!

I just completed a project in Final Cut Pro HD, I imported the project in iDVD5 as I always do, and noticed that the BURN was taking longer than normal. It was to the point where it was taking almost an hour to burn an 11 minute project. I just burned several DVDs with no problem over the weekend.

So I had to force quit the burn since it was obviously stuck and wouldn't move on.

After I rebooted my computer, my DVD won't eject!

I also got these messages:

1. Initialization error: A valid DVD drive could not be found

2. Your Macintosh does not have a supported Superdrive. You will be able to continue to work in iDVD5 but will not be able to burn a disc!

So what do I do now as I need to get this project burned to a DVD!!!!!

Sounds like it's either a confused OS, or your drive failed.

Restart the computer and hold down the mouse button - that will eject the disk. The restart will also tell you if the problem is hardware or software. If it doesn't work after the restart, it's most likely hardware and you'll have to call Apple.

Good luck.

Ok I was able to get the DVD out by holding down the mouse button as I rebooted the computer. I have yet to try to burn another dvd. I kept getting messages that said my drive was not supported so is there a way to find out other than trying to burn a dvd? Well actually I can just attempt to open iDVD5 and if I don't get the error message then I guess it should be okay. Oh yea I did a REPAIR PERMISSIONS as well before I got the disc out. I didnt notice any messages on restart telling me what the deal is. It just went through its normal start up operation.
