my first wedding video. AH! ...help

so... my calling card has arrived :) sort of
they are letting me shoot my cousins wedding in june and I have no idea how to go about this
I searched the forum on wedding videos, but alll there was were sample or demo reels of weddings, nothing I can really go on

Here are some questions...
1. with only one camera, how do you get enough coverage while the procession is going on? I want enough so i can edit it together without making it boring with one single shot

2. do you guys do interviews?
3. do you edit the video as if it was just live footage, like a concert... or do you make it into a story, more of a narrative
4. how long should it be?
5. do you guys produce your own music for it?
???

more questions will probably come up as I get closer, but right now, I know squat (what a funny word)

composition and editing shouldn't be a problem, just worried about coverage

I really want to shoot this wedding well... hopefully I can turn this into a summer job instead of working at blockbuster or having to sing and dance like a William Hung on the corner for Canadian pennies

-thanks

Re: my first wedding video. AH! ...help

Lloyd, I have done a few, I don't try to make it anything more than it is. Short Bride's place, Pre Church & arrival, I would try for a second camera, even a small miniDV on a tripod taking wide shots to use as cutaway shots in edit. Some interviews outside Church or at reception if you are doing that, I will try to find some links to useful info & post later. Cheers

Re: my first wedding video. AH! ...help

Lloyd I have posted some info from the 'net to you privately. Some may be of no use, but it is worth a read & you may get a lead to pther links. Good luck.

Re: my first wedding video. AH! ...help

No disrespect but.....If you post the links privately, how are the rest of us poor schmucks who have weddings coming up gonna get the info? Unless they were nudist wedding links and stuff.

Re: my first wedding video. AH! ...help

SORRY, I could not actually find links, so had to cut & past some lengthy posts from what I had saved. If I can remember where I got them I will post later.

Nirimba,
That last link you just posted is the most helpful and full of info of any I have found, even after TONS of Googling and digging. You came from Dreamtime and delivered the goods! Muchas Gracias sir Nirimba!

BTW, I have really enjoyed your presence on the board, the other day I read one that promted me to go to your profile and download all of your posts and read them. Youre a neat guy! Thanks for being here!

You can always ask the bride and groom what style do they want it to be? Sometimes that can open a can of worms, but it may be worth a shot.

If you can, like someone suggested, get an extra cam (even a 1-chip) for extra coverage. You'll need it.

In fact, with 2 cams, I created an "MTV" style show with a lot of interviews. I had 2-cameras...one followed the bride on the wedding day, the other followed the groom on the wedding day. It's really fun to edit a piece like that together so the bride and groom can see what happened on the other side before the ceremony.

Definitely try to get a master and close-up of the actual ceremony for coverage purposes. OR with one camera, make sure you move around to get various angles and framing to mix it up.

My 2 cents. :)

Good luck and have fun!!!

Stone the Crows mate! thanks, but if you keep that up my head will be that big I will need to buy a new Akubra.
Seriously, this is a unique site as far as I am concerned. I have learnt heaps every day & if I can give a little back then it's a win, win situation. Cheers & Beers from Down Under.

if your lucky at the church while the ceremony is going on the church will let you move during the ceremony cuz most dont let move at all or even use a light.

Too true bilgami, the area behind the preacher is usually sacred & only ordained persons are allowed. If you are lucky they will give you a spot & you stay for the duration. That is why I like a second camera, even if it's only static on a tripod getting wide shots.
The greatest problems I have had is from still photographers! I ran into one guy at two weddings & he did everything he could to get in my way & spoil my shots. Not by accident.

Re: my first wedding video. AH! ...help

those still photog guys get more freedom to move than us video guys. as they are more important than us.

:-/    ::)  THEY have to believe that!

I have also worked with some real professional co-operative ones.

this attitude will hamper you severely.in weddings, you will be a lot more successful if people (brides/grooms/other vendors/bridal party) like you. pick your battles with photogs. it is very rarely worth it to get worked up.
