My First Site

Ok, I know it's not much and there is really no usability yet, but I'm working on it. I work a full time job and don't have much free time, so the weekends will give me more freedom. I just got the site on Monday. Let me know what you think of the logo and the site layout so far though. Hoping to add a Blog, Forum, Videos and much more. Thanks!

Looks ok. But I would suggest reworking the logo. It's really hard to read. The "p" in "concept" gets lost in the light bulb. I honestly thought it was an "e" for the longest time. And the rest of logo is too spread out. The three pieces don't look connected. Also, remove the lensflare effect on the camera. Yikes!

I would also change the format of your Google Ads. That little box for the ads just doesn't look good at all, down their all by itself. A horizontal ad (like their 728x15 size text ads) would work better for that location.

Good luck!

Thanks very much, I'm still learning as I go, but it is fun. I agree with the Google ads... just haven't had time to fix it yet. I have been playing with the logo too. I want to upload a poll for which design looks best. I'll have more time during the weekend to accomplish this stuff. Thanks again for the feedback, much appreciated!

the area for the logo and the orange on the sides takes up too much space. "customer support" and "contact us" buttons do not load properly in firefox 3. the ads are a distraction and cheapen the overall feel of the site.

I suppose they are a a little big. The "Customer Support" works fine for me in FF3 and IE7. The "Contact Us" button should open a new message in your default mail client. If you have Windows OS, it should open Outlook or Thunderbird. Mac OS, should open Apple Mail or Entourage. I think I'll simplify it and make it a web based message form and route it to my email. Thanks for the feedback. Good or bad, it's all helpful. :)

for me it displays correctly in ie, but not firefox. my display is 1680x1050. "customer support" and "contact us" aren't located on the same bar, they are below it.

Ok, I have a Mac and it was showing up fine, I then checked it on my PC and I see what your talking about. I think it's fixed now, but another problem came about. I'll take a look at it tonight. Thank you for pointing it out to me!

It ok, but in my brutally honest professional view you need to revise your color scheme, the black buttons break the color compatible "group".

Either change the logo colors to suite the buttons or visa versa.

I feel that logo needs major work, I would personally say its needs more time and thought, dare I say it looks like it was put together hastly.

It was put together hastily :(
Well, the more I look at the site, the more I don't like it, so a huge redesign is in order this weekend. I've only had time between work and at night to put up what is there now (ie, only 3 days), so I'll fix everything this weekend. :dankk2:

Ah I understand your pain man,

hope my words didn't come off as too harsh, just hoping to point you in the right direction;

Keep posting the updates, hopefully with the help of the other members using a few iterations should have it nailed!

Your good my friend. I know it's constructive criticism. Finding time is the hardest part, but the suggestions are helpful. Thanks again for the help!

I think putting a few explosions in through flash would be a huge design benefit... you know.. an intro to your site... maybe have like.. a jedi... slash the screen with a lightsaber... then like... it could explode... you know.... just a thought :O

My only other advice would be to do alot of background reseach (this will really, really pay off)

basically what you do, is look at professional top end websites, eg Sony, Panasonic, or BBC and look at the DETAILS,

a LOT of care goes into making these high end websites,

also look at fashion websites, they take the MOST effort in there design, in fact they even have design leaderboards every year.

Once you look at these designs, you can draw inspiration, again attention to detail, I understand your pain of lack of time,

but never rush any creative work, I may self have made and then have scraped FOUR designs on the same project (now the 5th design stage), just because it didn't look right.

Anhar,

in short take your time, look at lots and lots of designs.
