My first paid gig as an AC

Hey folks, I am so excited, can't even say how much! Last Saturday, I was an AC on a low budget music video here in Toronto. It was a great shoot, relaxed atmosphere, everybody was just great, and the dancers were hot. Although I don't really like hip hop, I really enjoyed this shoot.

Shot with DVX100A in 24P, with the P+S Mini 35 adapter and Nikon lenses. Mini35 rocks! On top of everything, I got to take it home after the shoot and play... what a weekend!

I have been on shoots before, but this was a first where I actually got paid. I think I should frame the check rather than cashing it :grin: ?

I got a promise that clips will be available, maybe the whole video when it's finished (keep the fingers crossed). The white background will be keyed out and replaced with "stuff".

Yeah - tripod. Long story. On our last DVX shoot, the rental place gave us a piece of crap broken Sachtler with head that had faulty tilt lock. So when the DP went to rent stuff for this shoot, when he saw the equipment they had prepared, he asked if it's the same head we had last time. After some wheeling and dealing, he got this big Mathews mother of all tripods with O'Connor head for the price of the Sachtler. Good deal. The camera looks tiny on it, doesn't it?

Initially we had some problems with the Mini35. During the prep, a lens wouldn't go off the Nikon mount. It turned out to be a case of jammed locking pin in the bayonet mount. Several people tried to take it off, until it just happened sort of magically. Then we noticed some dirt on the oscillating screen inside, so we had to go and get another unit, but after that, it worked flawlessly.

And thanks, Barry, there are other shots of me that are not included on that web site. They are almost as sexy as those dancers, but my wife forbids me to show them, lest all the girls in Toronto start knocking on the door :beer:

It was great fun. I promise to post clips once some of the comps are available...
