My First Green Screen

I need to purchase a green screen.

Are there any recommended brands?

My company is paying for this so money isn't an issue.

Thanks,

Chris

p.s. Should I get a "blue screen" instead of green?

are you able to use paint or are you looking paper or cloth?

I need to be able to film two individuals standing in front of it. I will not be able to paint a background.

I need the screen and whatever it is that hold's it taught.

Is there a company that is "top-of-line" in this area?

I checked eBay:

Hanging screen: http://cgi.ebay.com/CHROMAKEY-9x18-...554673922QQcategoryZ79005QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Popup Reversible Screen: http://cgi.ebay.com/BLUE-and-GREEN-...553346298QQcategoryZ43440QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I imagine the second one (the pop-up) would be more prone to wrinkles and harder to get a clean shot.

What do you think?

I should have mentioned, I actually started my search at B&H Photo, but when you search for "green screen" all you get are 5 different size Matthews brand green screen tarps. There are no photos and no real description of the products.

Chris

How about:
http://www.rosebrand.com/

Oh, and don't search for "green screen". Search for "green", "chroma", "chroma key". Not too many products are actually going to contain the phrase "green screen".

There's always the reflecmedia chromatte system as well... if money isn't an issue, and they would swing a $7,000 price, then the chromatte would be a potential choice. Depends on your needs, of course. It has issues, but then again all greenscreening has issues. The chromatte saves time in setup, so if you're doing a lot of taking-it-down and moving and setting-it-up, chromatte can work well for that because you don't spend any time lighting the screen itself.

Barry,

That is really cool! I never heard of that system before.

Unfortunately, that price would raise some eyebrows at work.

Meanwhile, the EEFX fabrics look really nice.

I've heard good things about EEFX, but haven't tried them myself: www.eefx.com. Has anyone else bought anything from them?
I realize I'm replying to my own post (of almost 3 months ago), but I thought I'd add my experiences with EEFX (www.eefx.com). In a word - AWESOME! Their foam-backed chroma fabric is really 1st class. I recently bought 4 pieces of 5x10 green fabric: it keys nicely and their prices and delivery were great! You can also get custom options such as rod pockets, etc. Definitely a step up from the local fabric store!

Amvona has good green screens for a nice price. I would check it out if I were you. I have a 10 by 24. Going the cheap route I went to Ace hardware and bought some screw in hooks. Take two of them and screw into the cieling and bam. Hung it up by the eyelets on one end.

Simple

Now next question for you.

Lighting, lol

I'm trying to get a hold of EEFX. If anyone has a number for these guys I would greatly appreciate it. I need to buy some custom sized foam backed fabric for a Procyc wall and can't get a hold of these guys.
Thanks

It looks like there is no phone number on their webs site and all contact is through email. Have you tried that yet?

Chris

I have sent several emails over the last few weeks both to the sales and production departments and have yet to hear back from anyone.

I need to buy like $2000 + dollars worth of product and can't get an answer.

Everyone says how great these guys are, custom sizes, prompt response, etc...but I can't even talk to real person.

Reflecmedia has an outrages price... I think after that you might still need an ultimate DV hardware that runs about $3000 is that correct, or can you do all this in Final Cut Studio Pro with out the dedicated box?

I also have had a great experience with these guys and their sales department was extremely helpful. The screen works better than any other chroma key fabric I’ve used. I was also impressed at how good they were with my custom order and they answered all my questions. I’m going to use them for all my chroma key needs in the future.
