Greetings,
I am in the planning stages of what I will consider probably my first real shoot. I will be shooting a bio type doc of a photographer who has been there and done it. He has some incredible stories and I see this as a great opportunity.
I have a full Arri kit( 1k with chimera and egg-crate/ 2 650's and a 300 with diffusion. gels, flags/c stands/ backdrop etc.) I have a pretty good grip on what the lighting will look like as I have used this setup before. I will be shooting with my GH13 single camera so I will be doing double system audio, still not a problem as I will be bringing an audio/ boom operator along. I figured lav left channel and boom right on my h4n.
My general questions are about the actual interview portion and camera angles. I have studied a few diagrams of this setup. For now my plan is to have the interviewer asking the questions and having the interviewee more or less repeat the questions in his answers while facing the interviewer, and cut the interviewer in the post. I think this will seem more personal for this subject. Any opinions and experiences of this are welcome.
I will probably shadow him for a day or so and pick up B-roll of him out shooting and possibly some shots of him around his home maybe loading up cameras or editing etc as well.
My main questions are about camera angles for the interview and how many different camera placements I should try to use. Would it be enough to use one camera position then zoom or dolly in for the more personal parts of the interview. Of course there is no smooth zoom with the kit lens so that would be covered with B roll or his photography works. I have a small dolly setup and a Redrock rig with follow-focus, but I am not sure if this is overkill and whether or not the subject may find the entire setup too intimidating and not give his best.
How do I keep this looking great with the least amount of complications.
Would love to hear from someone who does this often and hear of your experiences and any tips you might have.
Thanks
