Hello Friends of film-making. I would love to share my very first go at VFX. In the following clip you can see an amateur shot on the highway, which then gets followed by a totally screwed up VFX edit, haha. I didn't find a "showcase" topic in this particular forum section, so I took the liberty to create a topic.

Try the tracking again, this time track the street lights, they seem to be fairly smooth. You might also place markers on the white dashes of the street, maybe parts of the fence. You need to track things which move smoothly, not the current jitter you're experiencing.

the original footage is too shaky and very awkward to get a good tracking map out of it, i'm afraid. i already lost a lot of detail because i let youtube stabilize it from the original 720i . thanks for the hint with the markers :) i am gonna give that a go next time

I agree, I would try tracking the light posts and the 15th Street sign. Make sure you don't stabilize your footage before you track, otherwise it will completely throw off the tracker. Can't wait to see your next one, 3d tracking is quite a learning process!

I'd try tracking the white van. It's stable. Basically just need camera movement off it. Don't need to track the whole damn road.

Hell, if your a bit carefull, you wouldn't need any tracking at all. It's not that complicated of a shot imo.

//then again, we could all take a stab at it. With any old object like a sphere.
Winner gets a kick in the ass? Fair? Wanna have a little contest?

Not sure, as they move it will require a lot of tracking and would also require to "link" these tracking from one to another.

Why's that? You could stabilize it first, then track it after. Best it so get a clean shot to start with, then you can work from there.

I second that. The van is stable in the middle of the shot and would be fairly easy to track.
If you have After Effects then use Mocha.
I'd rather use the built-in 3D Tracker from AE CS6 (if available). From what I've tested, works very well and it's simpler than Mocha or the tracker from The Foundry. Also, this 3D Tracker can stabilize shaky footage and performs it quite well.
