My first audio equipment question

I just got my dvx 100a. Of course I don't really want to use the mic on the camera because it's very low. Could anyone suggest a portable audio recorder that would work with my Mac? For the time being I'm using Imovie until I can afford Final Cut. Just something that could pick up dialogue well and allow me to connect with firewire or usb. Also could you please recommend a microphone. On a budget, could I get this for 300.00 or under? I've been looking at digital voice recorders and minidisc players. I do know some people use them for their projects. Thank you.

Minidisc players give suprisingly good soundquality for the price, only you cannot use xlr plugs if your not using a field mixer.

Currently I'm using the AKG 1000S. It delivers good and clear audio, but it's not really a videomicrophone, so it records some sounds you don't want in your movie.

I'm saving for the Sony ECM-670 now, it has recieved good criticts any here in Norway, it's used by many Television channels.

The DVX records quite acceptable (not Hollywood perfect, but acceptable) audio for dialogue into camera from mics connected via the XLR connectors (not the built in mic). It is probably the leader in it's class (1/3" CCD cams) for audio.

Many people capture their audio this way.

Before you decide on what you want, have you used our search function?
