My first attempt at editing a dialogue scene - need a little help!

Good advice from the moderator. On the aesthetic front, don't cut as much. It's disconcerting to the viewer and does nothing to further the narrative.

cuts were necessary because his passes were interrupted by dragsters, hence I had to patch up several passes to create ONE, cutting back to me was the only way to "patch" them seamelessly, visually wise... Unless you have a better idea? We filmed live at NHRA race and I had no control over the noise. Drasgters taking off are louder than jet planes!! And they took off constantly.

You'll get ghosting and severe choppiness in any 30p footage if you try to render it as 24p -- unless you only use it for 80% slo-mo.

The artifacting will only be apparent on progressive sources (HDTVs) if played from a progressive-scan DVD player.

As I said the 30 p footage (if I even keep any of it) will only account for 2% of the film. I do not want to sacrifice the quality of the rest of the film, especially since I have a chance to going to big screen with this project, for just 2%. So how would you handle this predicament?

PS: 80% slow mo might work, 30p footage is mostly of burnouts & rare cars and they seem to look great in slow mo anyway. So how would I go about the slow mo route? capture 30p in vegas and render it as 24?

I am sorry I am still completely NEW at all this. I am just a hotrod girl who has to become a filmmaker in 6 months. I have been working at 24/7 but it is a steep learning curve. thanks for your help and patience.

To do an 80% slo-mo, all you need to do is drop the 30p material into a 24p timeline and slow it down to 80% -- best way to do this is to right-click the clip and then change the Playback rate to 0.800.

Each 30p frame in the footage will then line up perfectly with each 24p frame on the timeline, giving you flawless, full-resolution slo-mo footage. You would render the entire project as 24p, of course.

THank you David, I will try this soon.

Today I completed my first teaser made with HVX200 footage and edited with vegas 8.0 with Raylight plug in. It came out awesome!

I then rendered it as a raylight avi so I can dump it back to my P2 card and see it on my big screen TV later today. The only issue I had was repeated popup windows stating: "Wanted a compressed frame" each time the window popped up, the rendering stopped. I would have to click on OK and then it would resume (until the next error message).

For a 2 min clip I had that error window come up about 30 times. This necessitated my sitting by the computer to watch and click OK everytime.

WHAT IS CAUSING THIS ERROR MESSAGE?

I was in BLUE Raylight mode and rendering to Raylight avi according to their tutorial instructions (no deviations).
