My feature is finally 'live'!

Hi fellow filmmakers,

My feature is now available online at IndieFlix.com

http://indieflix.com/film/the-dinner-date-34346/

It's been a while since I last posted, so to review, I shot my romantic comedy for less than a $1000. Basically the way I was able to accomplish this was to be writer/producer/director/cameraman/ and editor. It's been an obstacle filled journey, but it's great to have the film live on indieflix. I've also been accepted to Hulu, so now begins the next challenge, procuring the extremely expensive Errors and Omissions insurance. My initial research suggests it's going to cost over 4 times my entire production budget! If anyone has any tips or advice, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks and keep the faith!

Win

'What is that insurance and why do you need it?'

Hulu requires Errors and Omissions Insurance. (E&O). It protects against lawsuits such as copyright/trademark infringement, or if you portray a real life character in a bad light, etc.

Thanks Keylight for the link, will check out. I have found a broker who specializes in VOD only E&O Insurance (obviously much cheaper than a cinema released film) but it's still costly at around $3000. Then there's the lawyers fees to help prepare the application (attorney's signatures required on application or it won't be accepted) Lawyers fees = $1000. And title search $390. It all adds up!

Why would he need insurance if he already filmed and released the movie online?

Because it's been released. If he never released it nobody would see it. If nobody sees it, then he wouldn't need insurance.

If you use teh google to search for what E&O insurance covers, you'll understand why he needs it. Of course, I could do the search for you, and then copy & paste some info here, but that isn't as much fun as typing:

use teh google!
