My Experience with VidLED - Excellent!

Good day to all!

This past weekend I just finished filming a wedding which came to me rather quickly - was called and had a week to gather the appropriate equipment. I was in need of an on-camera light and have been trolling :) the boards for quite sometime researching...I ended up going with VidLED. The unit I purchased was the CooLED 40 with the DSPKIT (battery) and just for kicks I ordered the tripod; also I purchased the "black" color option.

My biggest concerns for me was the time frame I requried to receive the light. I contacted Marius (owner) of VidLED on Tuesday to see if he could make a light for me and have it to me by Friday. Marius said he could deliver - and with out a doubt the light came to me on the date I requested. EXCELLENT SERVICE is what I experienced from VidLED!

On to the light :). When I received the light - everything was packaged in a professional manner. The light came with a round plastic storage case (I was not expecting this). The construciton of the light was sturdy and tight. The black color option is a no brainer from me and the paint that was used is the "tough & matte" type.

The battery is compact and has led light's on the side and with a push of a button it indicates the amount of power left in the battery via the LED lights. Additional accessories recieved we're some gels that I could attach to the light by the use of some gaffer tapes - I did not use any gels for the shoot, but it was nice to know that I had them available, btw they came in a plastic storage container.

The light attached to my DVX-100a perfectly and along with my spiderbrace the whole system looked pretty cool. Actually one of the brides maids said "you've got a nice camera" :)!

In conclusion, I can HIGHLY recommend lights from VidLED - there is nothing cheap about the lights and they are affordable! One thing I did not want is a battery belt for an on camera light - VidLED has the solution, by purchasing the DSPKIT or by purchasing the light with the built in battery - your choice.

Need an on-camera LED light? Then by all means don't hesitate purchasing from www.vidled.com!!

I sure dig mine... I use it at least once every day... it's one of the only video tools that I use constantly.

I dig mine as well. Its the dayled-40 my first and only on camera light so i cant really compare to anything else but i can say its bright and built extremely well.

dewman, that is great news about everything - the product, packaging and service. Good for you.
When I make my trip to the States later in the year I really think I'll budget for one of these. One question - what made you choose the coolLED? I was thinking that was the one I'd get as it is the brightest, and you can throw a gel on to warm it up if you need - seems like a no brainer.
[I'm going to get the black as well]

Cheers, and thanks for posting your review.

MattinSTL - I can see how you can use the light on daily basis - I wish I was shooting every day :).

Matt S - right on, bro.

Bunydip - My thinking was right in line with you - I went a head and purchased the brightest unit and gel it down when needed. My unit came with 4 different gels - Full CTO, 1/2 CTO, 1/4 CTO and .3001; I'm not familar with gels and haven't played around with them as of yet - the way VidLED suggest attaching the gels is with gaffer tape, but i'm going to try and figure out a DIY option, so I can attach and remove with relative ease...probably something with velcro....

Trust me gaffer tape is easy. It sticks and resticks lots and never leaves residue... it's the easy answer... and gel is virtually disposable anyway... you can use it over and over and over, but when it gets crunched or something happens you just replace it... so why bulk up the unit with velcro? Just my .01

Gaffer tape is the videographer's best friend... easy on, easy off, stays put.

hey guys, I'm really looking a a led light for wedding stuff, I read somewhere that someone said on these forums that the light, even though it has a soft throw, is quite painful on the eyes to look at. Yes any light you look straight into isn't good. But I was concerned that you'd have squinting brides etc.
I was thinking of using the vidled or a zylight on a israeli arm.
Cheers

I can agree with all that has been said. I just tested out 3 Vidled lights and I WILL be making a purchase real soon! It will make a nice addition to everything else I have!

Thanks, MattinSTL - that's the way I've decided to go...i came to the same conclusion as it relates to bulky up the unit with velcro...gaffer tape all the way.

I used the light at a wedding and didn't have any complaints...it's just something that the couple had to deal with....with any ligtht there will be a blinding effect if they look directly into the light...a few cocktails for the bride and groom and all was good :)!

Glad to hear DVX100Shooter...i will be purchasing a couple more lights and accessories from VidLED...great combination of price and quality!

I wasn't going to buy lights at this time since I'm concentrating on other
items, but I've heard Vidled was a nifty little item so I bought 2 of them
on Ebay.

My first lights for my light kit. I think I just had twins.

They rarely are on Ebay. I've been keeping my eye out on them for weeks and
finally saw a guy put them on, I didn't bid on them to see how the bidding would
go. He came down on the price, good for me, bad for him.

Light panels show up from time to time, too, but I wanted Vidled, so I didn't even
bother to bid on those.
