My DIY Completely Automated Computer Controlled Camera Jib

After tinkering in the garage over the winter the weather was was finally nice enough to test drive my DIY Computer Automated Jib. Completely motorized boom and pan/tilt head programmable via DMX with PC software and a USB to DMX adapter.

I used the Jib for the first time last week while shooting my product review for the Opteka SteadyVid Pro...the Jib itself is not featured in the video but you get a good look at it working and shots from the on board camera.

A video of the jib design and fabrication is coming soon.

I guess it's a grey area? The other thread is intended for discussion on the product which I reviewed. This thread is for discussion on the Jib which I used to make the review video.

does the jib track movements or are the movements per-programmed then played back?

is it possible to manually move the jib and have the computer record the movements?

nicely done, you should do a video focusing on the jib. id very much like to see your design.

Thanks! I am in the process of producing that video now :)

The jib does not currently track movement BUT I think I can make that happen.

It is not possible to manually move the jib and record the movement. Most automation does not work in that manner.

The jib is programmed using a USB to DMX interface controlled by software used for programming intelligent moving lights
