My D70s pics

Dad bought me a D70s so I can finally expand into still photography. :D Still figuring it out and such, but I love it.

More importantly, did dad buy you the contents in the first picture? If so then I want to be adopted.

Seriously the pictures look good... I have an idea... I want to see a competition between the D70s thread, D50 thread, and Rebel XT thread... let's say all pics must be UNDER the same size... 700 x 700 or smaller... so cropping is up to the poster, but this way no wacky big pics to sway the vote.

I'd like to see who can post the best pics... and please please please... lens info on the shots!

Virum I'd give your second shot there a very high rating... it's very good.

Why don't you see if you can induce some moire on some fabric, screen, or some building with a tight-lined pattern? If you can't then you'd have me considering the D70s over the D50... that first shot is good, but that second shot is great.

Hahaha....no the Carrera was parked on my street....I took the opportunity to snap that. I drive a crappy Saturn that has a slippy tranny with no reverse. I get a lot of looks at the supermarket. And fuhget about getting gas in the daytime.

What do you mean by moire?

This is moire:

See the roof? Well in certain resolutions some cameras will show this effect with a challenging pattern. It can be verticle lines, horizontal lines, seersucker fabric... a tie... lots of things can cause moire. Anyway, with the current gen of the 70s chip they said that moire can be an occasional problem... but I'm thinking it was more the 70 then the 70s... and unless you shoot something with these patterns it's not an issue anyway... and sometimes it's not even an issue with the pattern... it's hard to predict what exact situation will cause it.

Basically I was wondering if you had ever seen it in any shots and if you couldn't induce it then you'd have another vote for me to get that cam instead of the d50. This has been a stupidly hard choice for me... if you have a d70s then you're nuts if you don't have one of the new 600 or 800 flashes... because the best thing about the 70s is that you can remote the flash automatically... yes you can put that external flash anywhere and take the picture and that flash will fire by control of the cam... proper exposure and everything... even compensating for where the flash is versus where the cam is... and THAT is what has made it so hard for me to finallize my d50 order. I can't decide how important that is to me.

If you go out and shoot some vinyl siding or a seer or hearingbone fabric and get moire then I could order the d50 in better conscience.

Either cam is great... I just have to decide between $120 savings or off cam flash control...

what camera took the phsychdelic roof pic. I gotta have one of those.....the colors in the pic really pop you know? and shift and abberate...

The truth is out there. No more "guessing games". Nothing personal guys with your choice of cameras (btw) but I am surprised (again) how much silence surrounds anything that makes sense (imo) versus "mainstream". It shouldn't be anything anymore but foveon (again imo). Many years from now when the "collective conciousness" will "wake up" and start asking questions and the bayer-work-around will rest in peace, many will wonder "how did it took us so long to get here?". Here are a few possible explanations:

All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident. --Arthur Schopenhauer , END QUOTE.
I do not want to increase the noise on this thread but I would like to share more with you, so.. here is the source of the above quotes:

For the record you've got a kick-ass style to your photography... lots of emotion... like you should probably be doing advertising or something.

Yes, we all know you have a camera where each pixel can record R,G, or B.

And of COURSE there's something personal, else you wouldn't have posted that here. Why take the time to bring someone's gear down and then cover it with a "nothing personal"?

Is there a point in taking someone else's thread and distract from his work because he uses different imaging sensors than you?

Jesus.

It ain't the camera, it's the shooter.

by the by, great work Virum. I have a D70, and I can't touch your work.

Bravo!

If you want to see some more amazing d70 stuff go to www.j3r.com The d70 has no problems with color.

It doesn't matter what you want to judge it against... the d70 is plenty capable. Tech discussions to decide on a cam are fine, but tech discussions to define the quality of a picture? That's stupid... either the pictures are good or they aren't... for photo quality evaluation it doesn't matter what tech was used, but rather HOW it was used... then judge the result.

You are right Rapier, my comment was distracting. I have no emotional attachments to either cameras (D70 or Sigma SD10) in any way (or any other camera). They're just tools and the only thing that makes the difference is the user. My comment was aimed towards the general acquisition principle rather than the specific camera or photographer.
(I guess I just got tired of seeing moire and knowing its origins while the technological solution is available)
and yes, Virum, by all means I do like your work too:love4:. Keep on shooting, you have taste.

Nice virum... nice pics... so guess what? I had a d50 for 12 hours and I think I'm getting a d70s instead... I have 3 days to decide for sure. The d50 I got had a defect in the sensor... a hot red pixel with a streak that went all the way off the frame. They said I can pay the difference for d70s if I want to... shipping will take 3 days and I keep seeing excellent d70s pics (like yours) so I'm thinking what the hell...

So far I think the syringe shot is my favorite.

Hey Mattin,

I've never used the D50, but I absolutely love my D70s....it feel great in my hands and the pictures it takes are wonderful. :) I'm sure you wouldn't regret your purchase.

The syringe picture was the hardest to take, seeing as I squirted it while laying on my back and using the kitchen ceiling lights as a my backlight. :) Can't really focus with one hand. ;)
