My Cinematography ShowReel

Hello very nice stuff.

What I like is that there is a ton of very nice movements, the movements are great. The other shots have plenty of nice color and compositions.

What I don't like, and this is just my opinion. You have tons of talent but this demo (IMO) has a problem with the length and music.

The music is VERY relaxed which is nice for corporate viewers, but in combo with being relaxed AND long its hard to feel excited to keep watching.

For example: Shots like the cars at 1:37 could be much shorter. Shrink some shots, and focus on say 1 minute to 1 and a half minutes and it will be an AWESOME demo.

Now, I LOVE how you take the music and cut with the head but and then the little scene plays out... I just wish it happened at a minute and a half earlier. At nearly 4 minutes its just too long in my opinion.

Again, loved it, please take no offense. just tossing out what "I" would do.

Cheers, keep up the good work!

Thanks:) I think its no more that 2 seconds of span for one shot these days, im bored if shot is longer unles its really amazing. Also i feel if i put more than 3 shots from the same film one after another then it becomes boring as well.

It's definitely a minute and 7 seconds too long. A solid two minutes would be even better. Certain shots really pop while others, comparatively, are merely competent. For instance the exceptional shot of the path through the trees with all that excellent fog. You have three or four of these slow creeps through trees that are all really nice, but the one with the fog is the best IMO and anything but the best needs to go. You need to be able to defend each and every clip on your reel with a reason why it's there. I would recommend you pick a track from one of your favorite movie scores, nothing too recognizable (not the main theme) but something that fits the body of work. Editing is really important. I know: duh. But if the reel doesn't flow they might not play the whole thing and if that happens you won't get the call, so I figured I'd point that out.

Like the others have said, it's too long. I would go no longer than 90 secs to 2 mins. I really like the shots. With this being longer, some of the shots get repetitive. So what I'd do it shorten this exact piece to the length area I said and that way you have only your best!

Yeah i agree, i probably remove most static shots but i'll leave that version online and upload short one soon or split into separate videos, if people will want to see more then in other vids.
I also have a question which shot is the weakest one?

Yeah, you can do that as well. Keep the longer one like hidden and if someone wants to see a longer reel then you can provide it, but definitely push the short version as your main reel. Shots I would recommend removing is the ones at the 1:17 and 1:36 mark. I feel that they don't showcase your skills compared to the rest.

Wow some really nice shots man, your camera movement is great, and I like lighting :)
I agree with most people about the length, try to get it down to 2 minutes
I thought the ending was interesting, it just needs to happen sooner

I thought the reel was quite nice. You have some quality material in there, my only issue with it was that I felt as though i was watching 3 minutes of the same thing. There is a lot of the same style and look throughout.

Yea, i made steadicam lately so i will make some other shots, i wouldnt want to include too many static shots so i used what worked before.

I used canon 550D, get something with big sensor and 24fps, if i would upgrade then to camera with less rolling shutter problem but i dont follow tests so i dont know if something came out that have less of the judder from rolling shutter.

Agree with the rest of the comments. It's way too long - by up to 50% in my opinion. I think your opening shots are not great, especially the very first shot and the post-effected slo-mo.
Personally I would drop your entire opening and use the pan up to the guy's face from 00:45 and the dolly-back walking shot from 1:28. Those two are much more indicative of your reel as a whole, and happen to be much nicer shots in terms of lighting, composition and grade. You've got to start strong, and right now your opening (besides the inflated length and repetitiveness) is your weakest spot.
Just my 2c! Some really nice work in there, well done.
