my capture is killing me.

Running OSX 10.4, FCP 4.5 HD, capturing DVX footage on small camcorder through firewire.

One of two things happens:
1. There is picture and sound but the picture is about 1.5x wider than it should be.
2. Picture is 640x480 and there is no sound.

Can anyone explain this to me? I've captured many hours of footage with no problems, and now this, holy christ is this frustrating. It is a simple DV capture, nothing special, using the presets for a new project. GRRR.

Ooooh- that's a new one. Double check your "easy setup" settings and reset everything. If that does not work, throw out your FCP prefs (after backing them up) and see if that helps.
