My 35mm

Here's some Footage:

I didn't know they had a thread just for 35mm adapters...so if the mod see's this in DIY, pull it? I'm posting it here because it's an adapter I'm in the process of finishing up.

Hey, I put a lot of effort into this, but it's 90% done and thought I'd post pics of my newest adapter. I'll be using a Light Shaping Screen with better optics and casing. Also a plus is I can change the Focus Screen to whatever I want. And interchangeable mounts. A lot bigger screen to focus on, better vibration and altogether better adapter. Once I have it finished I'll be posting a lot of video.

Well, I haven't got footage yet, but I'll post parts for everyone to get started on their own version of the Li-35. It's very basic stuff and simple. I'll try not to leave anything out and help you along the way. Okay first parts set up. Very simple and cheap list. Lets go shall we?

2x Asian 67mm Spacers: I just used 62 because I have no idea why, but any size smaller than that will not work.

1x Nikon Br-3 adapter: I like Nikon lens and this is the easist set-up to attach lens to your adapter

1x 67-52 step down ring: I'll explain later

1x 72-62 step down ring: "

Okay, parts are out of the way, next step is optics. I know a guy who sells 51mm Achromats at 129 FL and I got twof them. Crisp achromats and good size. You might have to venture out there and find someone who sells. Plenty of people do.

Next step is who to assemble it. It's quite easy and here's why I have all those step up and step down rings.

Step 1. With the two ahromats it's pretty much impossible to place them inside the tube. The inner diamter is something like 63mm and the Achromats are 51mm. So what I did is I took the two Achromats and taped them together using electrical tape. Then got a 52mm Filter ring and placed it at the end then taping that to the achromats. Here's what mine looks like.

Step 2. Placing all the rings together. This might get confusing, but I'll try my best to explain. Take 72-62 as your starter. Next ring is your 62-52, screw those together. Then take the 52mm male/male and screw that into the 62-52. Now take the 67-52 and screw it into the 52mm male/male. Now, go back to step one and take your achromat and screw it into your ring set-up. You should have something that looks like this.

Step 3. You take your achromat assembly and screw it into the Spacer tube. Like so.

0628070209.jpg

Step 4. This step will be on hold for a while. It's the inside where you have to drill holes, wire stuff and solder. Put the VH-57 v1.1 and too much to explain right now, I'm just putting up basics. I'll get back to this one later.

Step 5. Take the spacer tube without the achromat and get the 52-67 step up ring. Screw that to the front and then take your Nikon Br-3 and screw that to the 52-67 step up. You should have this.

0628070215.jpg

Screw Spacer Tube 1 into Spacer tube 2 and there it is. You should have the basics of the Li-35. Like I've said before I use the Light Shaping Diffuser for a Ground Glass/Diffuser screen. It's my personal favorite. There are different things you can try out.

I know the pictures aren't the best, I literall took them as I was typing and I'll eventually put better ones up with better descriptions. This is to get you started and hope you can find it useful.

all the best,

Sure. Once it's 100% and I have video I'll post my tutorial. I posted a tutorial a long time ago for one I made a while back. It's a static adapter though. You can still check it out. Just look under "threads started" by me and you can find it.

Cool, I'll definitely be waiting for your updates. I checked your old threads and the pics you have on those hosting sites aren't available anymore. SO is the LI-35 a vibrating 35mm adapter? Did you end up using that 55m asian spacer ring?

Thanks, I appreciate the help. So its the thorslab tube with retainer ring(I think I'll try the 3in like you recommended) and Nikon BR-3 and Nikon D screen. Is that just a regular 52mm macro 10x? and does that just screw on the opposite end of the BR-3? Then I just need a step down ring for the DVX, 72mm-52mm?

I'd definitely like the plans to your vibrating adapter. Since I'm pretty new to the 35mm adapter thing, I'll first try making you static adapter. Do you prefer the vibrating adapter than the static one that you made or is the vibrating adapter for an HD camera?

It was 2 52mm Opteka Macro's. Nothing impressive, but for a beginners adapter it's not bad. It didn't have much Chromatic Abberation and didn't have edge to edge sharpness like an Achromat will have. It just screws in on the other side like the pic. Yep, you'll probably have to go 52-62-72 to fit your camera.

I do prefer my vibrating adapter over it because of the type of screen I can use. Static is grainy where as Vibrating gets rid of all the grain there is. Me and a colleague are working on a screen for static and Vibrating adapters. We'll see shortly if it can hold up. I'll post parts sometime this week for you to get if you want.

Well, If the construction of the vibrating adapter is as simple as your static adapter then I might just go with the vibrating one. Besides the getting rid of the grain, does the vibrating adapter also bring in more light?

Car30,

I read another thread you were on and you mentioned you were testing screens from cell phones? Would you be cell phone lcd screen in place of the nikon d screen. If so I can run some test because I have a few old phones that might work.

Fresh,

I believe it's all a matter of taste. Personally I'm a big fan of Light Shaping Diffusers. Here's why.

A). You don't have to deal with smudge marks getting on glass. LSD screens only attract dust and it takes one quick spray of air in a can to get rid of it.
B). No vignetting. The lens spreads evenly across the screen so you don't need a condenser.
C). Certain screens, gives you certain light loss. The one I have is great for light loss. I would say it's no more than 1 to 1 1.5 stop of light loss. I can't 100% be accurate because I have never tested this theory.
D). The bokeh is perfect. Besides the G35, the bokeh on an LSD screen hasn't been matched.
E). LSD screens is like Film Stock to me. You can change them on the fly and chose which screen suites what scene.

Once again, this is personal taste. Everyone has their own impression on different screens.

So we should all be smashing up phones and other such electronic devices to use those instead of tearing our hair out trying to grind our glass or spin scratched up cd's around???

I don't know. Everyone has different taste I guess. I think it mainly had to due with the fact LCD screens weren't as bright and or too grainy. I've looked at so many and have come across the one's I like the most.
