My 35mm Adapter

Hey everyone,

I've asked a few questions on here in the past and have used the resources of the forum a lot when it came to understanding 35mm adapters. I used someone else's M2e on a shoot last spring and decided I couldn't be without one of these things! But I just couldn't part with the money that was equal to or exceeding the value of my DVX for one! So I started researching into how I could build my own.

I designed and came to understand everything last fall and built it with my dad slowly between December and February. I had to go back to school so he put the finishing touches on it and mailed it to me a week ago. I shot with it this past weekend and watched the dailies last night. All the footage looks fabulous, I will post some when I begin editing my film. For now, here are some pictures of the project.

I use Canon FD lenses, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 135mm, 70-210mm. I paid no more than $30 for any single lens. If anyone has any questions about it, I'd be glad to answer them!

First time setting it up last Thursday night. Prepping our shot list in the background!

First image test! The focal flange distance ended up being 2.1mm off! Got that fixed in a hurry.

Me with the rig! Lens on there is 135mm.

I'm really excited about the adapter. It's a huge accomplishment for me, since I really enjoy building a lot of my film equipment and being DIY about it. Everyone on set has been impressed!

That looks awesome! Can't wait too see some footage of that thing in action! What type of ground glass did you use and where did you get it from?

Glad you like it!

For the ground glass, I took a piece of clear lexan (the stuff Mythbusters uses for blast shields, but this one is thinner) and sandblasted it. My dad had some extra lying around his machine shop! It's a beautiful element, and we made multiples for contrast adjustment!
