My 24 is showing up 29

OK... here's the deal. I'm importing a 40 minute clip. Everytime I let the clip run it's length it's showing up 29... If a do a test and JUST import the beginning of the clip, it shows up as 23.

It is possible I'm running into a problem near the end of the tape... I am importing the footage again and I'm going to stop it a minute early this time and hope for the best.

Anybody ever have this problem?
It's a first for me.

OK... It was something at the end of the tape... I'm not sure why. I stopped the tape short and it shows 23.98

I have the shots and can move on now.

I'm editing a concert with footage from 2 DVX 100A's, a PD 150 and a Canon XL2. The lightning wasn't the best but the DVX footage is usable. The PD 150 is clear and bright of course... I'll have to change the frame rate to 24 and warm it up. The Canon looked OK (shot 24) but the cameraman SOMEHOW didn't record sound and kept stopping his camera. So it will be a real joy syncing his work up.

Anyway. If anybody knows why importing sometimes gets finicky let me know. I'm always interested.

Thanks for your time.

It's a known issue with some folks' FCP. If you let capture now hit the end of the timecode, for some reason it brings it in as 29.97. If, like you said, you stop it before the end, or if you use batch capture (my personal solution) and set the outpoint before the end, FCP will bring the footage in correctly at 23.98.

I don't know why it happens, but it drove me nuts a while ago. Had Capt Mench look at mine also with the same headscratching, and his head doesn't get scratched too often (meaning that he knows FCP pretty darn well).

This happens on both my desktop dual 1.8 G5 and my 1.33G4 laptop. I know this doesn't really help. But hopefully it eases with the confusion, if not the frustration.
