MXF quality

Hey all,

I'm still labouring to understand certain things about the HVX workflow. I think I now get why I only see stuff at 960x720, but why are the P2 files so much bigger on the P2 card than they are once downloaded?

Is this a conversion from mxf to qt? Or am I using some stupid settings somewhere in my presets? Presets are:

seq- DVCPRO HD- 720p25
capture- DVCPRO- 720p25
device- DVCPRO HD firewire 25

Just trying to make sure I'm getting the best quality I can...

Many thanks

I haven't noticed any size difference myself. Video files and audio files a separate as MXF files, so the video files are smaller than the final imported files, as FCP ties video and audio into one clip.

ANd yes, quality is EXACTLY the same. Just a QT WRAPPER and tying of the two separate elements is all that is happening.

Thank you, I guess that answers my question. I was looking at the quality and wondering why it was so bad, so I checked the sizes of the mxf's on the card. There is a big difference, but I just went back and checked the actual number of files, and there are fewer, so I guess it's grouping them somehow. I was worried I was screwing up the import.

As for the quality, I guess I just sack the DOP...

You can only judge the quality of the footage on an external HD monitor. You can not see an accurate representation on your computer display. YOu need an HD capture card (AJA, Black-Magic, Matrox MXO) and an HD monitor in order to properly view your footage with a critical eye.
