music videos/directors

Re: music videos/directors

Romanek is kind of cool. I visit Anonymous Content from time to time ot check out the work of some.

Re: music videos/directors

Michel Gondry, Jem Cohen, Chris Cunningham, Spike Jonze, Mark Romanek.

If you don't own the "Director's Label" DVD's for Gondry, Cunningham & Jonze, I'd highly recommend them.

Re: music videos/directors

Yeah, those dvds are excellent, the gondry one is my favorite.

Hype Williams has a dvd out as well of some of his work, only about 10 or so of the hundreds of videos hes done. he was the man back i the day, made some cool stuff.

Re: music videos/directors

My fraternity brother "Benny Boom" who has directed videos for a lot of Hip Hop artists was an assistant to Hype Williams at one time. It's kind of funny because Hype was real popular just a few years ago and now you don't see his work at all anymore. However Benny Boom is sort of stealing his thunder. I would have to say my favorite MV Directors are Benny Boom, Hype Williams, Paul Hunter (www.paul-hunter.com) Paul also does a lot of the cool NIKE commercials. Check out his work on his site. He did the one with Allen Iverson running through the city of Philadelphia with that "Rocky" type theme for Reebok last fall. Oh yea I forgot about Joseph Kahn whose done a ton of videos and also directed the movie Torque and there is one more Director whose name slips my mind right now but he usually directs a lot of Missy Elliot's videos....

Re: music videos/directors

Yeah, i grew up watching hype's videos. he did some great work. I got to work with hype a couple times on a some videos. i wish he would do more stuff.

Dave Meyers is the guy who does the missy vids for the most part. David La Chapelle does some cool work as well.

Thanks for the paul hunter link, didnt know he had a website.

i wish there was a good resource for music videos, they can kinda get lost. does anyone know of a database someplace that keeps them alive? mtv has an ok amount, but at really crapy rez.

Re: music videos/directors

Yea Dave Meyers is who I was thinking about! I sometimes wonder where some of these director's come up with the ideas for some of their videos. I heard that people like Benny Boom and I am sure others employ a team of people that all they do is write treatments. I guess the director writes the final treatment that is submitted to the labels. I am not sure how that ultimately works.

As for websites, I don't know if they have an archived vault of videos you can watch or not but you can check out:

www.musicvideoinsider.com (there is an article on the DVX100A on there right now! Something about a new Century Optics Widescreen Eyepiece.)
