Hey all, I had a question about lighting in a small area. The band im shooting for wants to look pretty hard since their last video kinda made em look soft. Its a 30 second spot and Im shooting the performance inside a recording studio practice space..now my question is..Do you reccomend top and back lighting?, I have very little experience working with lights.

2nd ..There is a green screen portion of the video shot in the same spot..I know the screen needs to be well lit, but how can I keep the same integrity if I want to shoot the scene dark.. I plan on renting 4 2ft4bank and 1 2ft2 bank kinos.

I might recommend hard noir type lighting. how about fixtures up high shooting beams of light that the musicians are in and out of with colored washes on wall.

i did a video last year for Thursday. It's called War all the time. We shot the band scenes three ways. One during daylight. Two at night lit with HMIs and three with no lights and a night vision lens. It was an interesting mix. you can watch "War all the time" here. Notice after 2:30 how the scenes change. At the end with the night vision, I have four people sweeping dedo lights across their faces for effect:

I don't quite understand what you are asking. Do you want to shoot the shots of the musicians in the studio then have green screen to shoot he same shots of them but to add something else in the background later?

Yeah, Thats what I'm trying to do. I'd like to have the some different things going on in the background, with the green screen. ..I like your video, was that DVX? or film?.

Re: Music Video

Nice video. I like the wide angle stuff a lot. I bet you had a better director than we did. Guy couldn't produce two valid forms of ID
