Music Video Workflow in FCPX?

Hey guys,
Just working on my first project which is a music video i shot for a producer friend and could do with some workflow tips using FCPX.

Atm, i am all set up and ready to start editing but wanted to make sure i start this the best way possible with regards to time/workflow.

I currently have most of the full length shots lined up in the timeline which are synced to the studio master audio track... Now would it be best to remove these and use the new multicam edit? Or cut sections from the timeline full length shots and place on a new track at the top in the same position?

I shot the video on a 7D 24p 1/50 1080p with the cinestyle setting and sharpness set to minimum alongside a few other adjustments as suggested by Philip Bloom. Now as this music video will only be on Vimeo and Youtube (1080p), would it still be best to add sharpness in FCPX?

What would be your flow when adjusting the raw flat footage in FCPX? Adjust exposure? Sharpness? Colour Correction? And does it matter in which order you do these?

Any advice on how you guys normally go about editing a music video would be great... I have been reading and studying books and various tutorials, but i want to make sure i do it right first time rather than waste time.

Multicam would only work if you shot with multiple cameras. If you shot it one angle at a time from a single camera you should continue editing the way you started.

Well, normally Noah would be correct. But with a Music video, each take is done to the same music track, at the same speed, so you could in fact use the multiclip function very effectively.

Hehe- your concept of a typical low-budget music video makes a generous assumptions of the level of gear- i.e. ability to actually sync from take to take. I'm not so sure...

I think BenB is right based on your input. It would be best to remove these clips and use multicam. The key is that your clips have a common audio track to use for syncing.

Depends on the footage. You really need to be the judge of that based on the look you want. I almost always add a small bit of sharpness using the Irudis Tonalizer plugin.

I haven't done any music videos but I imagine the workflow is pretty much the same as any muti-camera, multi-take shoot. Here is my basic workflow:

Manage media (organize, keyword, sync). Rough cut. Final cut. Color. Sharpen. Export (Share using Compressor settings). Archive.

I shot a music video with 3 cams and about 10 run throughs and synced the whole thing in FCPX. Ben is correct. It's the same music and as long as your cameras record the sound, easy to sync for multi cam .

Since where on the topic of music videos, i was wondering how to get get this effect in editing. Im pretty sure it easy to do but since im new to editing in general. I don't know how? I will post a video with the example
look at 2:41-242

^ Just quick cuts back and forth between two different shots. But so you know, this is a workflow thread so you should create a new topic if you have a different topic (editing technique). Welcome to DVX!

Check the "Free Templates And Plugins" forum at fcp.co where I believe someone created a transition for such an effect.
