Music Video Question

good question,

that's still the only method I've seen used recently, but I haven't been on a mv shoot for a year. Still, I don't think it would have changed since then.

I wouldn't worry too much about this, though. I've had the artist lip syncing off a boombox on some really low budget shoots, and the results looked fine at the end of the day also. Of course, this method doesn't get you much respect in the biz, so I'd recommend the DAT way, or you might cause some snickering among the record company executives.

hopefully someone else will see this and help!

Well the new thing is Ipods allot of shoots are using this and they will have all the versions of the song on it. Now what I am waiting for and I have scene people do it with Protools but a software program the could do the frame rate conversion and basic audio editing. Could also output the time code to the camera and a slate that would cool

On the only music video I've done, we ran an mp3 player through the band's PA system and worked off of that.

That is not true I have use both a CD and MP3 player. You just have to do what you do with a DAT. You have to put sync sounds at the beginning of the track. Use a beep and then when you are in post line beeps up with the audio that you recorded on set using the on camera mic and then delete the beginning of the tack where you had the sync marks. It works just like a DAT. The only difference is it won’t send time code to the camera...

As long as the band can hear it...also down to the artist. Some are good at it...some cant be bothered from the beginning. Also L.i.,P.., syncing anyway!
I see mountains and streams on timedelay...

Question on "Performance" style.

Question on "Performance" style.

Hey...No making jokes about that Title. I didn't know what else to call it. LOL :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I was contacted by a record company today in regards to shooting a music video for one of their lables.

They want to shoot in "Performance Style" where the whole band plays all the instruments.

I'm sure the question is obviouse but...Do they just fake it? Play soft? so they can hear the DAT? I'm sure this sounds totaly stupid, but I would like to know.

I'm assuming they fake by playing soft. But what if they want to Whale? Has any one delt with this situation before? They are a heavy Rock band, so it won't be Bach.

I have only ever shoot Solo music videos.

Thanks!

in my experience, the music is cranked up real loud over a speaker.
everyone pretty much plays as normal, except the amplifiers aren't plugged in. the drummer still hits the drums and the singer sings/mouths the words, softly so he doesn't strain his voice, but at least enough to make it look realistic.
