I recently shot a video for a band, with 16 layers all synced in FCP...what are some of the editing techniques used to start cutting....any suggestions would help...I'ma newbie. I'ma bit overwelmed.

Once I get my tracks synced up I shift+razor all the tracks on the down beat where I want the cuts. Once I'm done setting my cuts I got through and bump the clips I like up to the top track and establish my rough cut. After that I just go back, tighten the edits, swap out the weak spots, add transitions etc...

Select the section of the clip you like and shift + drag it up to an empty track on top. Holding down the shift key will keep the clip in sync. Does that help? If not let me know and I'll post a screen shot of a timeline I'm working on.

Make sure you take notice and pay attention to your edit tempo (quick mtv cuts or slow fades? etc). Base it on the feel and style of the song you're working with so you don't get too slow or fast. Don't just try to mimic killer effects you may see in other videos, make sure you design to the song at hand. Just a few beginner tips :)
