Music Video ADR vs Live sound?

Hi all,

I am planning a music video of a group of artists doing a Hip-Hop cypher. And I'm debating about how I want to do the audio portion. I figure easiest on these is to have them record a track and then have them sync up with the track in the recording. But I'm concerned with the enegy in peformance by having them just lip syncing a cypher battle.

Was toying with the idea of recording them doing their song/cypher live and either:
  • Mixing that live vocals with the recorded music (doesn't seem ideal)
  • Redubbing vocals and music in after (wouldn't this be more difficult in post?
Has anyone had any experience they can share with the process of doing music videos and what gets the best performance from an artist?

99.999% of music videos are lip sync.
The music videos I worked on, (shot with 'video' cameras) LTC was put on one an audio track, the other had the program audio for playback. The camera(s) were jam sync'd to the LTC trk., so each take/scene had the same TC. In lieu of TC, the audio program can be sent to the camera as a sync source. An audio editing program or DAW makes a good PB source as verses, choruses, and breaks can be marked for fast access.
