music software

Re: music software

And John, believe it or not you can and probably for not as much money as you think. Get a copy of Cubase SX a decent audio interface a good soft sampler and some instruments, and your good to go.

(I've just distilled about three books into a sentence, but in essence that's it.)

Re: music software

Propellerhead Reason... don't know if someone already mentioned it, but it's worth checking out

Re: music software

I once asked a NYU grad student film composer if he used soundtrack to score.
He...wanted to rip my head off.

It was just a joke...

Re: music software

ok, checked out that site, but the main thing i did was ask my computers/music intructor some questions.

I've chosen EWQL silver edition at only $149!!!!!!!!!!! (student discount)

just out of curiousity, i would LOVE to just here some stuff u've created with it since all the samples are huge compositions from famouse talented composers. I'm of course not there yet and would love to hear something from a normal guy (lol sry u know what i mean ;) )

THANKS

Re: music software

OK Cheesesailor - if you follow this link and instructions you'll get to one of my efforts. It's a highly compressed QT streaming file and the music suffers greatly from the compression - but you'll get the idea. Go to www.renneslechateau.co.uk/shop (that's my online shop) and click on the 'Henry Lincoln's Guide' item (the pic or the heading - you'll get another page with the QT file on. If you want to hear it in all it's glory let me know and I'll post the original file somewhere ...

There's other stuff but this is the most easily accessable right now.

Re: music software

th pic the heading the link, all seem to reload the same page. :-/

Mattc, do u have any EWQE Silver compositions u could share? I'd really appreciate it :D

Re: music software

th pic the heading the link, all seem to reload the same page.
Yeah - sorry my post was misleading - pic, heading and link do point to same extra page. But did the QT file run OK?

Re: music software

yeah i cant get the links to work, reloading isnt right, the dont load, my status bar goes but does not load a new page. If i add the item to my cart and THEN click the item from my cart, it does the same thing, bar loads but im still in my cart

can u post and example here on the board?

Re: music software

Yikes :-[ - don't want this thread to be about my website. I'll mail so I can get exactly what your experience of it is.

Re: music software

Cheesesailor  you can go to http://www.birthofthecool.com/films.html

There is a short flick I did as a lighting experiment there and I scored the orchestral parts in EWQLO Silver.  Bear in mind that this was a lighting experiment and I did the score in a day.  Mucho tweeking could make it sound better (by going in and manually adjusting the midi controllers so that each instrument is more accurately represented. This has nothing to do with the sample, it has to do with converting "keyboard playing" into "violin playing", etc. This will be true for any sample library you purchase), but it simply isn't worth that much effort.

Best,

Matt

Re: music software

Mattc, was that ALL ewql or just the orchestral, i mean, what about the jazz parts?

regardless thats pretty amazing, I know what you mean about using modulation, volume and such to make it better but for a one sitting thing, i think it sounds great.

If u have anything else i could hear i would love to hear it, but either way i think i'm sold

Re: music software

Just the orchestral. During the intro: For the jazz bass I used Trilogy, for the muted trumpet I used a patch out of SampleTank2 (also used over the orchestra). The other tune you hear is Stolen Moments and that was recorded live with me playing the sax (poorly).

I'll put more stuff on-line later, but that's it for now, until I find time to update the site.

Matt
