Music software lagging

Hey All,
I'm working on some musical scoring using both Garage Band and Sibelius 4. I'm using a new macbookpro, so its a very fast computer. Both programs worked perfectly up until a few weeks ago when the playback started lagging and acting funny. Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Sounds like a latency issue with your audio interface. A strategy for determining the ideal latency is to start high, say 11ms or so, and adjust the value downward until you reach a level that is comfortable for playing live, yet yielding reliable playback and recording.

If you are using integrated sound from your motherboard the standard audio drives provided won't cut it for proaudio work. If you don't have the money to purchase a soundcard designed for low latency proaudio work you can usally get by with using the onboard audio with an ASIO driver. Try http://www.asio4all.com/ it works with most consumer audio chipsets to reduce latency.
