Music people do not know about

well obscure music is practically all i listen to, but im not sure how indie dvxusers are, anyways...

my favorite of them all, Broken Social Scene, a canadian 'supergroup'. 7/4 Shoreline (my favorite song of all time) and Ibis Dreams of Pavement are my favorite tracks off their new album, and Almost Crimes and Shampoo Suicide off You Forgot it in People.

Also, a band I saw live two nights ago, Animal Collective. Try the songs Who Could Win a Rabbit, Grass, or Banshee Beat.

I picked up Gypsy punks earlier this week. I love it! The singer has such a sharp voice/ accent, and the instruments are great!

Does Buckethead count as obscure?

Cuz he's great. Although it's hard to find a place that has a full representation of his music. He's been around for a while, and rarely do two of his albums sound exactly alike. Even the ones that are similar are different. One of the best technical and bizarre guitarists around today.

Here's a fan made Myspace: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=29033703

I'd say listen to Binge and Grab first. If you're into system of a Down or music that has screaming in it (I'm not so much cool on the screams), listen to We are one and Botnus. Botnus has a pretty shredding solo.

check out Bittorrent sites for his live stuff too, he's quite amazing live.

For all you Gogol cats: Heard of Devotchka? Similar flavor and featured in Everything's Illuminated.

The Blue Eyed Devils are kinda fun. As are The Greenhornes. The Dresden Dolls got some interesting Gothic/Caberet type stuff.
Platinum Pied Pipers have one good song: jazzy remake of 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover.
Also dig on Morphine (not too obscure, but have at it) and the song Fontainebleu by Marco di Marco for you jazz cats.

Rufio anyone?

I thought everyone knew Rufio! I feel way better about my musical superiority to the average man if they're unknown, cuz I was rocking to Rufio like five years ago!

John sure does love his girl-rock bands.

The Helio Sequence isn't obscure, but not a lot of people have heard of them. I love them a lot.
