Music Licensing sites?

Thank you Jim Feeley.
I am trying to learn of places to license some semi-mainstream music. I have quite a few resources for stock music but not many choices when someone wants a particular broadway song or commercially released one.

That's the problem... any piece of music you might recognize(*), is most likely unobtainable... even finding out who to contact is a pain.

*Even if the music itself is in the Public Domain, if performed, the performers have rights to that performance...

Song Freedom has some songs from some artists that you may have heard of (Lady Gaga, Maroon 5, The Temptations). But only some of those songs can be licensed under some conditions. The site is easy enough to search, and it's fairly easy to see if a tune can be licensed for your specific use.

And anecdotally, as musicians' and composers' revenue from recorded media (CDs, digital downloads, streaming) gets lower, licensing fees for other uses (at least for sync licenses) are getting higher.

You could contact ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC directly, all three were extremely helpful when I contacted them about licensing for our streaming radio station. Sound Exchange might be able to help, but it doesn't look like they cover sync rights, only streams and websites. They may not be as helpful, but they might at least point you in the correct direction.

Technically ASCAP, etc. only cover the performance rights, but that might still apply for things like commercials, etc. Again, they might be able to point you in the correct direction and in my experience have been helpful and happy that I was checking on how to do things legally (vs. do and ask forgiveness later). Worth a shot for a quick email to one of them. All three were equally friendly with maybe SESAC being a slight bit better and more casual in tone. Then again maybe it was easy because our college already had a license and I was just checking to make sure that what we wanted to do was covered.

Ultimately it may come down to BMI, etc. and RIAA (sound exchange) that both need to be paid, which is why you are looking for a one stop clearing house.

Google hit this place, but no experience https://www.themusicbridge.com/musi...vision-0-1-0?gclid=CPm1rejdg9ICFYiNswod0k0HkQ

[edit]google also hit this https://www.ascap.com/Home/Music-Career/articles-advice/ascapcorner/corner14.aspx so my first suggestion might be right on
