DOes anyone know where you can get a cheap midi keyboard, and a program like Rodriguez uses where all the sounds and samples are on the computer, you just play it with the kmeyboard, also, any other information on his guitar setup would be nice to know. It'd make scoring movies easier and better quality. Greanted, he has a pro tools, but you gotta start somewhere.

you can go to a walmart or bestbuy and pick yourself up a yamaha keyboard for $100 bucks or so. As far as software, check out Reason. http://www.propellerheads.se/

This is a real cool setup for starters. I've heard some amazing stuff from this little program.

Hey, thanks for the reply.

I know absolutely nothing about this, so do you know if computers come standard with a midi port? or do i need to buy a PCI card or something? Because i have a keyboard with midi out, i need to buy a cable though. I just wasn't sure if I could plug in and all i needed was a cable.

I use a serial port for my synth (Alesis QS-6) although it's still MIDI. You might want to ask at a music store (if you don't get an answer here) to see if you can hook your keyboard to a serial port. Your computer already has one of those.

IF you are looking to use a keyboard for just a controller, there are a wide variety of musical libraries to choose from. I think there was a thread here in the last few months about it, although it may have been in the cafe instead of audio. You can also use something like soundtracks for mac or acid for PC, which is a loop based software app. They give you a lot of flexibility with keys, arrangement, tempo.
