multitrack mixing audio fade not working - plz help

VegasAudioFade.jpg

Is it just me, or is the track above it the exact same track?

No the track in the middle is the ambient audio from the day of, and the bottom track is the added song in stereo.

OK, then the song is continuing in the upper track, recorded on-site, right?

Try muting that middle track and see if it still seems to be playing at full volume when it should be fading.

The lower track (track 3) should fade out and stay out but it doesn't. It actually continues to play as if there was more wave file on that track.

Now..... when I mute the 2 upper tracks (track 1 and 2) and play only track 3, then the audio fades out perfect.

When I un-mute track 1 and 2 to play everything normally, then the problem begins again where track 3 continues to play music after the fade, and it doesn't even fade out.

Are you sure you're hearing that track and not the "live" audio from the other tracks (which, as you've described it, should also be the song)?

lol...
nope!
the live audio on the other tracks does not have music. The other tracks are people mumbling and car driving near by and stuff.

Create an entirely new audio track, don't automate any FX, and drop the music clip into it (out of the track it's currently in). Does the same thing still happen?

Try re encoding the lower track in soundforge or audacity. What is the lower track? .wav? or try fading out the actual track rather than the audio clip.(right click audio track- insert/remove envelope>volume)

WOW!
I figured out what happened. I'm so embarrassed and you were so right!

Last night when I was editing this at 3:15am, somehow, I don't know when it happened, it must have been between one of my head-drops!
but that section of the ambient track (track 2) somehow got replaced with the information from track 3!

So track 2 and 3 were now the same, but of course track 2 without the fade information kept playing the music, as it should.

So now I have to find my original ambient sound and put it back in track 2. And take out the duplicate song which was causing this whole thing and everything will be fine.

I think I need a break now. I'm getting burnt out!:zombie_smiley:

thanks for all your help!

:)
