Multiple formats - help with sequence settings

I was given a hard drive with all of the source media, as well as project files for a friends video. My goal is to fix the terrible jittering and glitching nature of the video due to multiple formats.

I looked at the sequence settings, somehow everything was set to 25fps. Source media is everything HDV 1080i60, DVCproHD 1080i50, Apple Intermediate Codec 29.97, Apple ProRes 29.96, DV - Pal 25fps, h.264 1080... it is a mess.

At first I just changed the sequence settings to HDV 1080i60, re-rendered, exported as a full QT... transcoded it in Compressor to h.264 24fps... and then to DVD and it worked... i tried that same method again and now it isnt working.

My question is 3 part. What happy medium can I find to make some droplets and convert all of this media to... possibly more than one codec based on the DV and HD sources.... and then what sequence settings should I use to re-edit everything in... and lastly, to save about 20 hours of work.... will exporting and EDL actually work? I have never used it before and seems like it could do the trick.

Any further information needed I will GLADLY supply in detail. This has been weeks of trouble and now I am realizing to just start over might be the best bet.

Also, it is about 12 different sequences... 2 of which are completely DV - Pal footage. The rest are 99.9% HD. The end result is a widescreen DVD and also a Blu Ray, but DVD is my main goal at the moment.

ProRes is a good option to transcode everything to. I would edit on an HD timeline. All graphics will be HD and master output will be HD. Then encode for SD dvd.

Compressor droplets work great, but it may not do the trick without some massaging, as you may have to play around with pixel aspect ratios, pull downs and 16:9 / 4:3 settings based on the clips. You will also need to do a standards conversion from NTSC to PAL or vice-versa. I would base that decision on what the final output needs to be. I find that FCP does not do a great job with standards conversion. Nattress makes a plugin that I have had success with.

You mention 20 hours of work, how many hours of footage are we talking about? How many minutes of final run time are you expecting?

Its 67 minutes total run time, over 12 different sequences. I have never done a "standards conversion" before unless that is just a fancy name for clicking the gear in compressor and changing it from the grayed out PAL to a bold NTSC....

So far I have made a droplet for anything DV Pal to go to 24fps h.264 and then anything HDV1080i50 to go to h.264 as well but keeping resolutions the same. probably not the best option but I just tried something to see what would happen.

I started a new sequence in HDV1080i60 and re-edited everything. Anything that I converted took a while to render, but there was no stuttering in the final output to DVD... however the footage looked very fast and home move like... so I changed the sequence settings to HDV1080p30 and am burning now to check and see if that "feels" better.

I say 20 hours because it was a pain in the ass 2 hour process to use the in an out points from clips on the old timeline and manually place everything on the new timeline in the same places. I know I am not going about this correctly, but I am just trying some things before I get a straight answer... if I even do from a forum. exporting an EDL seems like it would save time... but if clips are now different frame rates and the sequences are different as well... it can't possibly line up correctly.
