Multiple Cameras of the same Model

How many people have bought or would buy multiple models of the same camera for their setups?

I read lot about having a camera for each different situation but rarely have I seen anyone buy 2 or more cameras of the same model.
Even Phil Bloom hasn't mentioned doing it in any of the articles I have read on his blog.

Iremember watching and reading a bit about David Chase and how he shot the Sopranos.
The interview setup between Soprano and Dr. Melfi.
He would film Sopranos closeup and wide shot at the same time.
Then he would turn the cameras and film Melfi's shots the same way.
He said this led to better continuity.

I've bought 2 GH3's. :D

I kept the GH2 originally once upgrading, but the GH3’s low light performance, especially with fast glass has won me over.

I find it handy to be able to cover more than one angle live, or to have almost a 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] view/backup.

Given with the GH3 for example, it doesn’t have 2 card slots, you have no backup should there be a problem with a clip, so I’d rather have even a less desirable view as a fallback rather than nothing at all.

Even if you’re not recording live, I guess there’s no harm in always being prepared and having a backup camera.

Only time I have seen people do this is when they intend on renting them out, or with cheaper cameras like action cameras (GoPro, Sony Action Cam, Contour+, etc...), but as you said, if the situation warrants it, it can be used to great effect. I can think of numerous documentary related situations where it would work great.

When dealing with solitary big cats, it is common to search around for a hidden carcass, and then sit and wait for the cat that killed it to come back to feast. You could set up multiple cameras to get the best shots of it, including a camera right close up.

I have 4 gh1's and now 4 gh2's - at that price why would you consider anything else as a B camera

I have an Ex3 and a 5D3 but I am looking at different cameras with the view to getting multiples.

Favourite at the moment is the Canon C100.
I'd love the C300 but I could have 2 C100s for the price and save the extra 10k for other things.

I am going to sell my Ex3.

GH2s or GH3s are a great price in comparison.

Cameras are inconsequentially cheap so running more than one camera is almost norm today unless dealing with some of those very smart directors who only get what they need.

(BTW, with all due respect to Mr Bloom, he seems to be more of a gear-review guys than a pro working constantly in the industry. You kinda need to check your sources of information as almost any given member on this board is WORKING more on daily basis than Mr Bloom. No hate just mentioning that you wouldn't really go for cooking tips to New York Times website...)

In defense of Phil Bloom I would strongly dissagree with that Patryk.

HE cut his teeth working on one of the biggest Television Channels in Europe.
Phil Bloom can't show all of the work on a daily basis on his blog because clients don't let him show them.
He constantly works filiming, teaching workshops and reviewing/teaching on his huge blog which he maintains himself.
Also you do not get invited to the Lucasfilm Skywalker Ranch to showcase anything if you are not very very good at what you do.
He does his reviews AROUND the work he does.

All of that takes hard WORK.

I agree with you though on cheap cameras....the choice of great cameras under 10k now makes it a great time. Roll on NAB 2013.

BTW....I looked at some of your work on your website (bookmarked to view more when I get time).
Your excellent at what you do.....like your style.

Totally agree - I value Philip Bloom's opinion more than any other reviewer/industry pro I've come across, and annoyingly, now I have some of the cameras he recommended in the past, I can recreate the quality, but rarely his composition and framing.

I'm not easy to impress - but I like his work. Maybe it's because he's a Brit, and as such, his comments make a little more sense to us over here? Maybe a cultural thing? I don't know.
