Multiclip Audio Question

Another newbie question, if you please....

I am editing a wedding using multiclip from a 3 camera setup. Two cameras were far angles and another was behind the altar. I set the audio to one camera and switch only the video during the edit.

My problem is that one of the far cameras has better ambient sound for the music, etc., but I used a remote wireless microphone on the groom (which actually catches the bride as well) that doesn't catch this stuff. Switching the audio is jarring and quite uneven so I don't want to do that.

How do I use the far camera audio track as the base audio and add the audio overlay using the groom's mic when appropriate?

Thanks,
Aaron

Why not just leave both audio tracks on there, and work with they're volume's till you find a good balance?

I'm no expert.

I'm no expert.

If you have your main camera on v1 and cam 2 on v2 and 3 on v3 they all have seperate soundtracks that play together. You can turn off the sound track on the one camera (button at front of track) and all you have is tracks 1 and two playing together. You can click on each audio track and adjust it's properties and also select window-arrange-audio to bring you to the audio editing screen set up. Play with it there. Again, I don't know how to explain it well, sure others can explain it better but I hope this helps you.

The problem is that after I create a multiclip and begin multicam editing, the sound is only for one camera at a time (set to the best overall sound). I could switch audio sources with the video, but that sounds awfully bad.

I guess the only solution is to put another clip from the source camera superimposed over the multiclip in the timeline for the desired audio track to be mixed in with the multicam edit audio?

Sorry if I'm dense here.

I do the same thing, here's how. First, do my Multiclip edit as usual, using Cam 1 with the mic from the Groom and mic from the readers podium, which are L & R channels on Cam 1.

Then, I open my clip from my good ambient noise camera, detach the video Patch Tab in the Timeline window, drop only the audio into tracks 3 & 4. So I have audio from Groom on A1, readers podium on A2, ambien in stereo on A3 & A4, and my multiclip edit on track V1 (collapsed, of course).

In the Browser, I highlight that Sequence, right click, Send To, chose SoundTrack Pro Multitrack Project File (forget the exact wording off hand). In STP, I do my mix of the four tracks as I need them. I can also clean up and sweeten all my tracks individually there, too, without leaving my STP multitrack project. December's issue (I'm pretty sure it'll be December) of Event DV magazine (free subscriptions on-line, EventDV.net) will have my tutorial about doing just this.

Benb sounds like he has what you need. I don't have 5.0 with multicam yet. Have to do multicameras the old fashion way.

I have a tutorial out on Multiclip editing basics in Event DV on-line (eventdv.net). There are also two SoundTrack Pro tutorials that round trip from FCP coming out in Nov and Dec of this year in Event DV. I'll also have some QT tutorials out soon, one of which covers exactly what you're trying to do, combine Multiclip edits with Multitrack sound editing. Contact me off-board.

It's sent, let me know if it helps. The final version will be in the December issue of Event DV magazine (free subscription on-line, eventdv.net) with all the photos to illustrate and all. Some really good info, and really neat work flow, if I do say so myself.
